I have smi version 6 running on an HP 48gx. I have a prolific usb to serial adapter with the updated drivers. I have smi transfer 97 installed and I can not get it to send or receive. My usb/serial port says com 3 and my smi transfer says com 3 but yet still nothing.

Can someone help!

Thank you

Matt

My attempts to use a USB-to-Serial adapter for my HP48 with TDS were mixed. I had to reload the adapter software each time I wanted to transfer data--a major pain. It might be time to lose the 48.

Hey Matt,
Are you wanting to do this on a new windows 7 machine
via the virtual XP machine? If so, I kind of stumbled onto
a solution. I think :0

About half the USB/COM adaptors just won't work with certain programs. One choice is to try another adaptor.

It may be the actual USB port you are using, I recommend you always use the same one for SMI and not use it for anything else. Also have the adaptor plugged in before you turn the computer on.

In an office where I regularly work, when backing up projects to memory sticks, the computer will sometimes not recognize the second memory stick. I pull it and put it in the next USB slot and it works. In my computer it sometimes assigns the second memory stick a different drive letter.

First thing to try is to send from the HP48 before SMI looks for the device.

Even with an adapter, you still need to use the null modem cable.

Are you getting any error codes?

When I first set up mine, I was receiving an error code (don't recall the exact code). Anyway, when I researched the error code, it meant I had a counterfeit adapter (yea, I bought it on eBay). I went to Office Depot, bought another adapter, and everything then worked...

Feel free to send me an email.

Thanks, David

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you...
