I have a lot of photos I need to send to someone, but the file would be HUGE. Is there a reasonable software that will simply allow me to load a bunch of photos and it all at one button push create them at a smaller pixel dimension so they won't be so huge--like screen resolution or something.
THANKS
I really like this program. You can resize/rename in one fell swoop. The only bad thing is you have to keep track of your destination pretty close.
Here is an instruction sheet I put together for using Microsoft Office picture tools to resize photographs.
I like Faststone as well.
Better than Irfanview or XNView, in my opinion.
I havn't tried Faststone - will hav to give it a try.
Been using Irfanview http://www.irfanview.com/ for a number of years, and like the batch processing. You can easily rename, resize, and change the quality. It is free.
Here is a writeup I made for a forum I have when file sizes where climbing through the roof. I would just run this utility, and then ZIP them into 1 or more zip files so you only have to upload a couple of files.
-------------------------------------------------------
Some 7 years later I am still using http://www.irfanview.com/ to resize my pics and to change their extensions. It is still free and still one of the best picture software I have found.
irfanview can do BATCH photo processing. What doe that mean? Well after a long weekend of riding who wants to resize each and every picture to post them to the web? You don't have to, you can resize them all at once, chance the size, DPI, naming-convention and type, all with just a couple of clicks.
A quick how-to how I do it.
First download your camera to a folder, and then make a new folder inside that one called web.
Fire up irfanview, and go to file, and then batch conversion/rename navigate to your picture folder, you will see a list of the files in the directory tree. Highlight all of the pics you want to resize, or just do them all, and click on add. This will add all the pic files to the input files window.
Now, go back to the directory window, and double click on the web folder you created before (there will not be any files in there yet) Now on the left hand side, go to the 'output directory for result files' and click on the button for use current look in directory. This will set the location where the new converted files will be saved. You can navigate to anywhere you want to, or even overwrite the original files if you want, this is just how I do it.
Now set your file parameters like we have done before JPEG format, click on the advanced options below that. Tick resize, set new size, and enter a width of 640 pixels. (no height) Then tick preserve aspect ratio and use resample function for better quality. Last set a DPI of 96. I also select under Misc, save with original date/time.
Now click OK, and you are ready to run your first batch operation.
If you like, you can play with the Batch rename settings so change the way the files are named, another powerful and useful feature.
After you run the batch conversion there is a report on the screen and you can see each file that was converted, and if it was OK. Clear that out, and you are all done!
Mr. Lee has the best solution. You can save the reduced resolution photos to any folder you wish, you can rename the images or keep the same name. Plus, it is very likely you already have the software loaded on your computer.
I do this sort of thing all the time. Easy as can be.
One further bit of advice is once you get the reduced size images created, select all the images you need to send, then right click. One of the options should be to send all the selected files to a zip file. That way you can send one zip file containing all the images.
Hope that helps.

I use a tool from Power toys for Win7. Image Resizer for Windows. You just do a right click on the photo and click "resize pictures" and a option window opens and there it goes. Also... you can do multiple of them at one time (I believe)!
Put on a CD and snail-mail?
Upload to cyberspace and send them a link?
Thanks for all the effort to explain this!
THANKS ALL!!!!!!
I have not been frequenting the board too much lately. Too busy. I am not sure there is any better tech support page for engineers and surveyors in existence.
Thanks for the tip David. I usde MS office to resize copies all the time, but didn't know about using thumnails view -> select all-> resize until just now. You've saved me a LOT of time.
The way I typically do this is I will browse to the folder containing the images, select all of the files I want to send, then right click > send to > mail recipient. A dialog box pops up and asks I want to make all my pictures smaller (or keep them at original size). Select make them smaller, then you move to the step of creating the email. You cannot begin an email and then attach them and get these options.
This is what works for me, and all my original files are unchanged.
Hey Friends I think it's a good idea to using Batch photo editing software while we have a lot of Images for editing or conversion I have used it’s really work great ,If we need to do something with more than one image at once I think ReaConverter is the right choice for that. Using ReaConverter we will be able to convert our files to different popular formats, re size pictures or edit in just a few clicks.
