While replacing the drive belt and trailing cable on my 450C today, I decided to clean the spittoon for the first time since the machine was new in 2000. What a mess! I have ink in every crevice of my fingers. Anyone know of a good solvent for inkjet ink? Lacquer thinner didn't seem to have any effect.
Soap and water worked well when I was cleaning my used Hp800 before putting it into service. Seems like I may have used rubbing alcohol one some of the tougher spots.
As one of the in-house Designjet maintenance staff, I've only found one thing that works...time. Soap and warm water cut it as well as anything.
I wash frequently, it's usually gone in a couple of days.

Warning if you use soap it ruins the taste 😉
I wouldn't use laqueur thinner. That might eat at some plastics.
Back in the type-writer days, we had stuff to clean the platten roller.
I remember the smell from that and my old chemistry sets. I'm thinking poly propolene alcohol or glycol. Don't hold me to that. That was a long time ago.
Last time I cleaned an ink-jetter I just used plain ole rubbing alcohol and a bunch of q-tip swabs. It's always messing. Next time, if ever, I do it again I'll be strapping on rubber medical-type gloves.
I found a website that suggested products containing isopropanol. I don't have any around the house, so I guess I'll just let it wear off my hands.
An ounce of prevention
you shoulda coulda woulda put on mechanics gloves before you started.......
Ditto, our service gla uses mildy soapy water and nothing else. uses a lot of toothbrushes.
Many hand creams and sanitizers will quicken the separation of ink from your skin, the natural oils of your skin will eventually break the ink's bond.
