I am new to land surveying and I just got a job working for a man that hasn't changed his software for entering legal descriptions and plotting points since 1993. I'm trying to find a better software that doesn't use MS-DOS. What do you guys use/recommend? I'm familiar with AutoCAD but I've seen other programs that go along with it. Any help is appreciated!
Thanks!
There are several, of course. http://www.carlsonsw.com/solutions/land-survey/&apos ;">Carlson Survey is very popular.
We use software that a colleague from another company had drveloped over the last 10years. Not sure how well it would work.in the US but work perfect in South Africa. Software is EasySurv. Developed by Wynand Mulder and works for AAM Johannesburg branch. Also very cheap in our terms as it was only $150 converted using current exchange rate

It is highly possible that the 1993 software is far superior for simply entering in legal descriptions and plotting points.
Of course if you are doing more than that, there are advantages to upgrading.
