Has anyone used any of the FTP services available for transferring large files? Any recommendations?
A client used Dropbox to send me a set of plans for a project I am working on. I was impressed how easy it was to use. I now use it to transfer files between a friend who subcontracts with me and myself.
I have also put a few folders up there with files/info that I may need, so that I have access to it when I travel for work.
It is pretty handy, and free.
FYI, I've also heard good things about Drop-box.
We use www.transferbigfiles.com, its free for many uses, however I upgraded to the $5/month plan. Worth every penny.
I'll second the recommendations for Dropbox. You can also earn free, extra storage space.
I have been using dropbox for over a year. You can upload docs for use on your smart phone (there is an Android app), or for sending to others. I keep legal docs there for instant pull-up, and operator's manuals in pdf format for reference in the field. My latest phone has the ability to tie the camera into dropbox for instant upload of photos. You can have one dropbox account sync'ed with all of your computers. Load a doc on one, moments later pull it up on the others. There is a server size limit on the free version, but I have yet to reach it.
But back to the original question, your docs can be loaded on your site, and a link forwarded to the client for download.
Since I didn't see anybody else giving it, here's a signup link for free Dropbox.

Your using the link will give me a little more free space, also.
Sorry, I already signed up earlier.:'(
while i am sure you are on the dropbox, i can add www.box.net to the list. i have enjoyed that one and somehow got upgraded to 50gb of storage.
