Does anyone know of free coordinate geometry (COGO) software suitable for college students studying surveying??ÿ ?ÿ ?ÿThis does not need to be a robust package, but should at least allow for basic routines like traversing and inversing by point number.

Many many moons ago I wrote an add-in for excel that gives basic cogo functionality.

You can use it to build traverse sheets, reduce observations etc.

Its free for anyone to use.

Let me know if you would like a copy?ÿ

I have never used it but noticed this one years ago, there are similar programs from other agencies if you poke around a little.

The best way for you to learn traversing and inversing is to write your own basic routines using a programming language of your choice. Traversing is nothing more than right-angle trigonometry, and inversing is a simple inverse trigonometric function. Programming your own routines will teach you about significant figures, a subject that is lacking in many push-button surveyors.

Autodesk use to give free Land Desktop software to College students. It was an educational version that didn't require serial numbers to be entered to use it.

That was a few years ago. Contact AutoCAD and see if they still do that.

You can get demo versions of SurvCE, SurveyPro, FieldGenius that run on a PC. They all have COGO menus. Check the websites. The have limitations compared to the paid versions of course, but probably not that would affect the COGO.

I've found https://www.q-cogo.com/ surprisingly powerful and useful for completing things anytime I'm away from a computer with CAD.?ÿ It does area with curves and pretty advanced cogo routines.?ÿ Sometimes you need to test a little (or read the documentation) for how to do things.?ÿ
