I'm beginning to add drives, paths and walk ways to a topo map. The drive is gravel (hard pack), about 14' wide, with 7" minus rip-rap ditches each side, variably around a foot deep and three feet wide. I've shot the centerline only so far. I'm searching for what might be typical or best practice to draft this. Are polylines typically used to draw the actual locations of the edges of the drive and ditches? Would some symbolic hatch be used for the ditches? What's standard? Would anyone be willing to share an example of how they would show this?

Depends on the scale of the printed map. Large scale patterns don't show up well on a path that narrow but at a smaller scale I would probably use a rock pattern for rip rap and gravel for gravel. If I was actually doing topo I would probably take a edge of rap, cl ditch, edge of rap, edge of gravel maybe a cl and mirror on the other side. I would doubt the section would be regular enough to use a template on the centerline. If it was just for general mapping puropuses you could probably getaway with just the centerline. On another note I like the dual 2d and 3D polyline option for carlson
