Anyone had any luck with this? I am not sure if it is a Leica issue or Civil 3d issue, (probably a ME issue) but for the life of me can't get it to show what I export out of CAD. I just want to see my background while I stake out.

I don't use Leica, but when I export a dxf for use in my Trimble collectors I do it in either R12 or 2000 format.

Same as exbert, but I get by with saving my DXF down to 2010.

Try wblock instead of export. Save it as a 2010 DXF. I think it is a little cleaner than the export command and always seems to work for me when export doesn't. I have not personally used it with Leica, but I have had problems with DXF background maps not working and this is what I have used to fix it.
Hope this helps,
Doug

Save as "other Formats"
I use the latest 2013 .dxf

Also Attached the DXF under Job Properties, don't import it.
