The biggest weakness of Carlson Survey as I see it is the lack of customization in point labels. That's the best part of Civil3D, and I wish Carlson worked the same way. However, it doesn't.
My goal would be to have a point node and then to the right of the node, in a left-justified stack, would be (top to bottom) Point #, Code, Notes. The J-Filed software allows to export a CSV file in the format #,N,E,Z,Desc,Notes. Carlson seems to be OK with bringing in this format, but I end up with disastrous looking labels like the attached pic, there's also a picture of the F2F code for found monument "FD".
I'm never concerned with elevations, so I don't need to see that part of the label, and instead of "Found monument" I don't know why it won't just use "FD". Also, is there a way to get the note text (2" PIPE) in the example in the same font/alignment instead of obliviously pasted over everything else? Maybe I'm approaching this all wrong, but I just want the label to be:
154
FD
2" PIPE
Thanks!
I don't think this is a weakness of Carlson. I think you need to get out the manual and learn how this is done. You need to play around with the attribute layout ID to get what you need. If any of the attribute ID's are not sufficient you can locate them in the support folder and change them. To get it to use FD just change the description or tick use raw description.
I imagine all you want to achieve is there.
Totalsurv beat me to it. Select ON for the Use Raw Description or change "Found monument" to FD.
In your second image change the Attribute Layout ID to the number 2 this should align your text attributes to the right of your node, you could click preview next to the selection to verify. I am not completely sure on the field code but I would try selecting "on" for use raw description. Hope this helps!
You can redefine the files srvpno0 thru srvpno9 to look however you want.
Well that helps a lot. I didn't know you could change those attribute layouts. I always thought you were stuck with the 9 presets. I'm going to dig into this - thanks!
Carlson is pretty darn powerful. I have been using it since July 2017, and I am barley scratching the surface of what it can do. I learn something on a regular basis. RPLSToday, Youtube, Carlson Support, That CAD Girl, etc. are all great resources.

I wrote up a procedural document on attribute customization and attached a few such customizations at Carlson Knowledgebase Article #779. You can re-position the attributes, change their layers, colors, text styles, etc... the only thing you'd need to do is keep the attribute names. Of all of the various attribute layouts, I like and use #5 the most.

I have been using Carlson since 2002 and swear by it. It is customizable to see whatever labeling/coding you want to see including positioning. I do believe that they have online tutorials or there may be some youtube stuff out there to do what you want to do but they also have excellent call in tech support. If you find there is something missing give Jim Carlson a call. He's in their Mass. office. He always returns phone calls and emails. Very nice guy who stands behind the product and is always looking for ways to improve it for the end user.

I would never be so bold to nicely RTFM someone. I would bounty RTFM them in a heartbeat.
With that, there are many customers settings in Carlson and you should be able to find a solution.

It certainly helps a lot knowing you can modify the point attribute blocks, it's extremely customizable that way. It would be disappointing if I'm limited to just shifting around point #, elevation, and description. It would be nice if you could add/replace with notes, northing/easting, lat/long, etc. I'll have to study up on it.
