I've done this in the past, but can't remember all of the steps. I know that you have to make the changes in drawing setup for grid projection, etc and then write a polyline file, but then what do I do to project my drawing into Google Earth?

Thanks

Very first prompt after selecting "Draw Polyline File", is "Polyline File Formatt". Enter "G" for Google and take it from there.

"G" or Google Earth is not listed as one of the choices. Maybe Carlson took it out in Survey 2013?

Thanks for your help.

On the pull down menu there's a file exporter (?!?) to XML and Google Earth. Select the Google Earth export, but be sure to make sure you are in the proper zone and whatnot. And follow the prompts and boom (it opens in Google Earth). There's a KML or KMZ file that's created in the project directory.

nlabedzki has it.

SETTINGS
DRAWING SETUP
select GRID
and choose your PROJECTION

now go to
FILE
LANDXML/ROADXML/GOOGLE EARTH
EXPORT GOOGLE EARTH FILE

very slick indeed!

Evidently the programmers at Carlson are a bunch of practical jokers. Seems each new release they go, "Now we know people are using this feature; what can we rename it and where do we want to move it to just mess with everybody??" 😛

😉 I'm sure there'll be more to come. The move of the command from Write Polyline File to its current location was a result of a suggestion from me as I wanted the routine to also include point and layer information that the original "Google" option in the polywrite routine didn't have. I've got other ideas for the command but have them on hold for now so I'm pretty sure its location will stay static for a while.

Now, follwing this discussion, I'm interested in figuring out how to tweak the datum just a little bit so the data will match the existing database. My datum is good, but Google Earth has a little bias, like 8 feet horizontal, so it doesn't match up well. Is there a way to (un)localize surveyed data to match Google Earth?

I do not have a "G" option when I do this. (See below screen capture)

And mine says "LandXLM/RoadXLM" am I missing a feature or package?

For some reason, this does not surprise me. I had figured either you or Brian or Lon was behind all of this. 😀

Type kmlwrite at command line or
File>LandXML/RoadXML/Google Earth>Export Google Earth File
