AutoCAD 2007.

I am able to select the 2000+ items (nodes, etc) in an outside drawing by others.

I am not able to move or erase those items.

I tried the ERASE ALL command with no luck.

All the layers are unlocked.

What else should I try?

Thanks, Brad

I get goofy stuff like that once in a while in Microstation, where it doesn't recognize the command on that element/feature, whatever. I just drop it (I think thats 'explode' in AutoCad), then it will lose certain attributes. Then I can do whatever I want

It's smarter than me and I still don't know why it does that, but the workaround is easy enough

Nope not read only

I can move & erase some items just not others...

It came from C3D & I am a Carlson man...

This sounds like the proprietary Autodesk Civil 3D ARX objects at work. If you list the entity(ies), what kind of entity type is reported? If you want to send me a sample of the DWG, I'll be happy to take a look and see what might be going on.

Were there any unreferenced xref's?

Thanks for sending along a copy of the DWG. The objects in question were proprietary C3D objects. Try this:

1. From the Points menu, click Convert Point Format -- Convert LDT/Civil 3D to Carlson Points.

2. At the following prompt:
>Are points AECC custom entities or standard blocks [/Block]?
Press C (custom) to attempt to convert the proprietary C3D points to Carlson points.

3. Presuming they convert (they did with my Carlson ICAD system), erase or move the result as desired.

I hope this helps.

And I also accepted the default :

Use object enabler from Autodesk or Open Design Alliance [Autodesk/]?

Converted 2325 LDT/Civil3D points to Carlson.

Command: e ERASE

Select objects: Specify opposite corner: 3934 found

So yes it did convert the nodes to Carslon points and it allowed me to erase those newly created points, but unfortunately the red blob of s&it remains...

After kind of following this thread, and a few others over the past - it makes a person wonder why anybody would ever buy AutoCrud.

One thing you could do is call whoever sent you the file and ask THEM to fix it. Maybe something as simple as saving it back to Ver 2000 or something

Good luck Brad, I think most of us around here fully empathize with you.

Sometimes its just easier to block out all the good stuff and insert into a new DWG. I have to do that sometimes and its alot quicker then trying to figure out the problem.

I agree, audit the drawing. Purge all then make sure layer 0 and defpoints are turned on
