We have for years used I-backup as a very good virtual hard drive. We treat it just like another hard drive, labeled "F" in our case. However, it won't work with Windows 8 or 10. So we are forced to change.

Does anyone know of a good one that gives one a virtual hard drive like that?

GDrive is great! (Unless you are traveling in China.)

I use Google Drive. I pay about a few $/month for 175Gb and map it as local G: using an old DOS command in my startup menu of Windows 10.
SUBST G: "c:usersmy namegoogle drive"

Google drive is very quick at getting the data up to the cloud. Nearly instantaneously. I can be working in middle of a CAD file (Microstation) and get a phone call. Then leave the office with out any effort to copy files to a drive, I can then access the files from the cloud via my cell phone, tablet or laptop.

Works the same for my data collection files. I use a Windows tablet in the field. In the field, I turn on the internet access of the tablet and my job files are automatically synced to the cloud and back to my office PC before I get to the truck.

FYI: Microstation directly read/writes a file to disk. There is NO reason save a file in Microstation.

I use these things until they are full and then buy another one. I don't like relying on cloud drives because I can't have it im my personal physical possession.

Don't put all your eggs in one basket.

With a cloud service, the files reside on your original HD (in your office your "personal physical possession"), and on the cloud (offsite). If your backup drive and the original HD are both in the same location, then it all can be lost in a fire or flood.

I love Google Drive... You get 15gb for just signing up for Gmail etc. If you become a "local guide" and write up 150 reviews on companies/businesses/restaurants, you get 1TB FOR FREE. You can't really beat that price.

Or you can pay just a few bucks more for it instead of doing reviews. I think the cloud is the way to go.

I pay $10 per month for 1TB of dropbox. It syncs real time to "the cloud"(I don't like that flaky term) and my external hard drive sitting on my desk. It does take a few days to do the initial syncing of so many files, but after that it is seamless for me. I struggled to get Google Drive to work with my iPhone. I am very pleased with dropbox.

Cloud backup is great until you find that you have no access to the internet.....
