I have received an AutoCAD drawing from an engineer. I need to copy his engineering to my final plan. I'm using Carlson AutoCAD and it seems like I'm getting a bunch of blocks with lables in the corners such as "ACAD_PROXY_ENTITY". Also, he has blocks "AeccDBNETWORK90" for example.
The engineer is willing to do what ever I need to get his catch basin, manholes, stationing ect. to plot out, but I'm not sure what to ask him to do. Being self taught in CAD, I miss out on a lot of the background knowledge.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
Forrest
Have him "save the file down" to your version.
no, have him export the file!
Under file, there is an export function to turn all those Civil Objects into earlier versions. (i worked too late last night to recall if it is really called export or some other name, but it is not just a SAVE AS) If you have CAD 2012, just get the object enablers from Autodesk. If you have an earlier version and he is using a later version, he needs to export it out to an earlier version.
You can only get object enablers equivalent to your year of CAD. ie a CAD 2012 drawing with Civil 3d Objects will never be readable in a CAD 2008 environment. It is how Autodesk nudges us to stay current with our software. I believe your carlson standalone has the 2008 engine.
The engineer's file is in Civil3D format. Have him export the drawing to whichever version you need to be able to read in. All of the Civil3D objects need to be converted to plain Autocad entities.
Per Lee Green's suggestion, I asked him to explode the proxy elememnts and it seemed to take care of it.
thank you
For architects this always works
Explode. All - Do this 4x
Qselect. Hatch. Pattern name=solid
Erase
I use autocad c3d 2012
THere is another way. Have him set PROXYGRAPHICS to 1 and save.
I'll have to remember that - thanks
