I am looking for some help on this issue. I am going to be picking up some side drafting work, but the company requires their files to be in Microstation format (dgn). Just wondering if anyone can recommend any software that will convert from dwg to dgn format. I don't really want to purchase Microstation because I will never probably use it.

Thanks

You may be able to use a copy of MicroStation under a shared license with the company you are working for. Bentley Select License Pooling or Mobile and Home Use provides some ability for the company using MicroStation to "check out" a license for a limited time. Unless you have used MicroStation expect a learning curve. I use both and have taught MicroStation to Autodesk users. The difference is always a shock! If the company has Bentley Select they may also have a Bentley LEARN training subscription that uses online videos to get you up to speed.

Conversion is always a source of lost data and rework. Check the Autodesk Discussion Group DGN Export thread on the process.

Autocad 2009 and up should be able to write to dgn format.

Agreed, you should be able to get the stuff converted in later ACAD or Microstation, but pay attention to the earlier advice that it is never smooth, and some rework will be in order to get it right.

I agree that some conversions might not be perfect.
I use microstation and Bentley View seems to do a pretty good job.
