Here's my situation:

I have a bunch of points already collected and mapped. I would like to correlate these points to another data set that is not related by location but attached to the point. Any way to joint the two data sets and display the non-location data?

I am thinking of something like PNEZD filetype but more like PNETTTT ("T" for data) so it displays 4 "descriptions" as the data.

Or maybe another point group with TNETT.

Or maybe a survey network?:bored:

Ideas?

EDIT: added category

Easy To Do In Carlson

"Copy/Merge CRD File"

It will renumber points in the process if necessary.

I would probably use a spreadsheet to join the two. Create a comma delimited coordinate file. Import into spreadsheet. Copy/paste non-location data, and export.

This sounds vaguely like GIS.

I missed the non locational data reference.

In Carlson under "GIS" you can select "Link Data", pick a point and link it to data already in or import into the dwg.

I have never done this but I checked and it gives me a choice window once I have selected a point. You can also select a group of points.

Thanks for all the responses.

Not GIS, Autocad. Perhaps it would be easier in a GIS system but we don't have one here.

It is gas and temp data collected from various drill sites that i would like to display with the asbuilts.

I don't understand why you can't just insert them into your drawing?

In civil 3d on the settings tab of the toolspace expand the point collection and the User-Defined Property Classifications (U-D PC) collection, right click U-D PC and select create new classification, give your new classification a name of your choice I use X-Data, now you will see a new collection with your custom name, right click that new collection and select create new user-defined property, in this dialog name the property (usually the header of the data column), give the property a description if you wish and define the data type (string, single/double precision, elevation, latitude....etc) and default value for this user-defined property, repeat last step for each new column of data that you would like to be available for labeling. Now that you have created receptacles for your extended data you need to create a custom point style to use when importing this data. Expand the Point File Formats collection right click it and select new...user point file this will bring up a dialog that allows you to create your PNETTTT file format, in this dialog one at a time click the word "unused" in the column header for each of your desired data fields, when the dialog pops up pull down the column name control and select from that collection you 1) Point Number 2) Northing 3) Easting 4) Custom Point Property 1 (Named whatever you named it) 5) Custom Point Property 2 (Named whatever you named it) 6) Custom Point Property 3 (Named whatever you named it) 7) Custom Point Property 4 (Named whatever you named it), select how you would like the file to be formatted (columnated or delimited by...) also choose the file extension that you would like to use for these files (I use .csv since this will be the easiest file to get out of excel). Now you have a receptacle for the data and a file format to import the data all you need is to import both data sets into excel merge them together, remove any unwanted data do a saveas .csv and import the new file into c3d using your new file format. Of course you will need to create new label styles to display your new fancy extended data.
