When I was in junior and senior high school I had a Blue Healer that was a fantastic dog not only for cattle, but hunting and playing. The dog was always looking for something to pick up for you to throw so she could fetch. Frisbees were the favorite that she could grab in mid air. If sticks were not available, she would pick up a dirt clod or cow chip and drop it at your feet.

My current dog now is a Dachshund. I find him to be a very loyal breed and is always trying to find a mouse or rabbit to kill. Below is "Rock" pointing north on the Initial Point of the 6th P.M.

This is my latest. She just showed up one day wearing a collar but no tag. We contacted animal control, put up signs, and contacted local vets with no luck. That was over two years ago so I guess she's mine now. She is a Frisbee dog too, but with her short snout she has trouble catching them in the air.

You're going to make me do this! LOL

My boy, Banjo, is a Spanish Water Dog and tons of fun. He has a great disposition, loyalty, and is amusing to boot. Plus he goes out each morning and gets the paper for me!

I take him in the field with me all the time, but not hunting. He hates loud noises like gun shots, thunder and even gets nervous in a rain or heat lightening.

On the way to work! (Wendell made this meme!)

On the Job!

Before and after haircut!

What Banjo really enjoys 🙂

Sorry to post so many but the dog has so many facets to him!

All dogs are beautiful creatures, and loyal companions.

Dog North Calibration

Apparently dogs have an internal compass. So, if you ever get lost without you dog, pay attention.

Basis of Bearing on plat: "Dog North".

Dog North Calibration

I must be part dog.

I can find magnetic north without a compass.

B-)

Dog North Calibration

I saw that article a while back and started noting my two dogs doing their business. They seem to poop in whatever direction they are facing when the urge happens, but the old dog likes one particular spot and generally faces East or North.

We have a 15 year old red doxie, a 15 year old weagle, a 14 year old lab border collie and a 3 year old black pom. We get some looks when we head around the block, especially when I take them by myself...

We're down to 1 now but had 2 for a while. English Bulls aren't too bad if you don't mind the snoring and constant gas.....

Dog North Calibration

After posting that comment I got to thinking. Maybe they are just orienting to get the sun out of their eyes. Maybe our down-under members can help verify that.

SWMBO walks our pooches with a friend of hers and her dogs frequently. Well the friend has heard the same thing about dogs turning north, but only dogs that turn in circles before 'poopung.' Needless to say she has made a study of her dog and claims it is TRUE!

Here's a shot of my 130 pound Maremma Gio (like the Italian version of the Great Pyrenees livestock guardian) meeting our 6 pound elderly rescued Chihuahua Chica for the first time.

(BTW, I too had a terrific Dachshund named Digger who passed away suddenly several years ago, and I still miss him. Makes my eyes leak whenever I think of him. He was an awesome guy.)

Here's our girl, Rosy. She's a Staffordshire Terrier/Bulldog mix, about 9 years old now. Friendliest, most affectionate dog I've ever known. Unless you're another dog. Then, hold on tight or she's in flight, and it's never pretty. Because of that, she's pretty much a full time couch dog now, except for 2-3 long walks a day. Too bad 'cause she loves to run, but you just can't take any chances.

A 2 year old Dachshund lives here. His name is Duke but I call him Dukus.

He is very loyal to the members of his pack, not sure about visitors. He has mellowed some.

Derek, are those all litter mates?

I count eleven. I had a retriever years ago that had 13, and she only had 12 "dinner spots". It seemed like months that either I or my wife had to stand guard at feeding time and pluck the "fatties" off her to make sure the two little runts got their turn.

And thus the term "suckin' on hind tit" came to be.....

Our current pack. With these three there is alot of poop. In our fenced in back yard they don't poop in any direction but there are group poops where they are all within two or three feet of each other pooping.

The second picture is of Hawser on seagull patrol with a fish cleaning table about 25' ahead of the bow.
