The thread below announcing Alan Chavers as a new grandpa got me to thinking. I was 43 when the first grandchild came on the scene. On the other hand, my sister was 64 before her one and only granchild arrived.

How old were you when your first (biologically-related) grandchild arrived?
Who here was the youngest and who was the oldest?

I realize that some of you probably became a grandparent the day you got married. That's a completely different category.

Excellent thread.

I am now 42, my oldest beautiful daughter is only 15.

So no grandchildren for me ...yet.

However, my Dad was born on his Mom's 18th birthday in 1949.

So, I think she was 38 when I was born.

I have a dear friend who was 18 in 1948 when her second child was born. That child provided her with her first grandchild two months less than 17 years later. Therefore, she was a grandmother at 35, but, her husband was already 53 at the time.

I was 39 but didn't find out about it until 10 years later. Sad to have missed out on those years, she is a beautiful and smart child.

Dang Nate, I appreciate an honest man, lol.

I understand that situation, it was good that gas was only 20cents a gallon cause I had to drive so far to pick up a date because I was related to half the county.

Am the same age of people that had grandchildren before I became a father at 32. 6 girls in my graduating class of 57 were hiding pregnancies to be able to attend the ceremony, 3 could not attend.

Was 55 before first grandchild and he is two years older than my daughter.

🙂

You all are so lucky so just have kids to begin with.
I'm 52 now and 3 failed mariages and no kids to show for it.
That is why I am relegated to just being "Uncle Big E".

God bless all you Grandpa and Grandmas!

43

He's 2-1/2 now. Second grandson born last July. Third arriving next May.
With five kids making grandkids, the art room becomes a toy room again.

Mr. A Harris

"Am the same age of people that had grandchildren before I became a father at 32. 6 girls in my graduating class of 57 were hiding pregnancies to be able to attend the ceremony, 3 could not attend."

Are you bragging because you fathered all nine of these kids in 1957 or complaining because you were 32 and still in high school?

I am 37 now. The oldest daughter is 10. So I better be pushing 60 by the time a grandkid arrives or someone will be castrated. I probably need to worry about my 7 year old boy more.
