For all those who know the magnanimous RADU, I want to update you as to his current circumstance. Richard is the founder of a Facebook page known as Baby Boomers 4 Our Australia. He was very active but recently had gone MIA for several months raising quite few concerns.?ÿ
He was finally tracked down a few weeks ago with disappointing news of failing health. Today, there was a FB post with a few more details.

Wow, so sad. I still remember having Vegimite with Richard at Paul Cook's house in Santa Barbara many years ago at a POB meet-up. JB, I think that you might have been there as well as the late Jim McGillis. Richard is a very warm and fine man and I wish him the best.

Jim McGillis was the champion of one line comments here. ?ÿHe seemed to be a very nice gentleman. ?ÿI have truly missed him.
Had some private conversation once with Paul Cook as I had a relative with the same name. ?ÿHe, too, seemed to be a true gentleman whose house was slowly moving down hill.
Had a private conversation with Richard Abbott as well when my daughter was spending two months working in Australia. ?ÿHard to believe that was 16 years ago.
Had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with JB Stahl at a continuing education program in Joplin, Missouri a few years ago. ?ÿHe kept the crowd awake.

One RADU story I recall was he once led a public protest on some issue he held particularly dear. ?ÿHis protest included a nearly nude public appearance.

Ha! Caught me mid-bite there JB. As Jim and I were driving down to SB that night, we drove over this bridge. Jim told be that he staked it out when he was working for CALTRANS. I think of him everytime I drive over it.
I had the pleasure of hosting RADU for a short time, right before he gave a presentation at a PLSO conference in 2004. I ran into him again at the national conference in Las Vegas and then the last time in Salt Lake City.

I am the sole moderator of RADUS Baby Boomers group. He set it up that way years ago, just in case he needed back up. Well, he did finally need back up and I have been taking care of the group as best as I can.
There are very valid reasons for RADU not wanting everyone to know what was going on with him. This is why I kept it private until it was announced by his friend on Facebook.
The main one is that he is not wanting or looking for any sympathy, and was very specific about this.?ÿ He wants positivity only, being the strong man he was, and soon will be.
I know once he gets his strength back, that he will return to us, with that great personality and heart that he has always had. ???ÿ
Thanks, Angel. Richard has brought so many great friends together here and throughout the world. He can be assured that they will all join in prayers and support.

I haven't heard from Richard in years, hope everything turns out OK. I shared a hotel with him during an FIG conference in Sydney in 2010, he showed me around the city and we had a good time swapping survey tales.
RADU keep up the fight!?ÿ You have been an inspiration to many many surveyors around the world.?ÿ I consider myself one of the lucky ones that actually got to meet and have a meal with you at the ACSM in Utah...as I recall you muscled through your presentation even though you had a serious head cold from the travel.?ÿ

"Good afternoon everyone. I am just letting you all know that I have just had a lovely visit with Richard Abbott. He is still in hospital and does not know how much longer he will be there for. they are still trying to work out the best dosage of the medications for him. He is in very good spirits. I will keep you posted."
