Hi, we're trying to do a firmware update of our old trimble r4 II through the serial port. Can anyone recommend a model/brabd of rs232 cable and usb adaptor that will actually work? Prolific? FTDI? Where can we find the infos on wich cable/adaptor chipset will actually work with this? So far we tried a rs232 to usb cable but Winflash doesnt recognize it even if its recognized in windows device manager (Prolific on COM6).
Thanks a lot for your help!
I don't have experience with the R4, but with the older Trimble models I've had reliable success with adapters using the FTDI chipset. I don't have a specific brand recommendation, but as long as it uses the genuine FTDI chipset it should be okay.
Thanks!
Indeed FTDI was the trick.
Here is a cable that worked updating firmwares for R4-2 and R8s rovers
OIKWAN USB to RS232 Serial Adapter with FTDI Chipset - USB 2.0 to Female DB9 Serial Cable for Windows and Mac (6ft)
I am new to updating the firmware. Where are the places to do this. Currenlt have SPS986.
