Has anyone heard of an older Leica 1200 GPS receiver not being able to collect static GPS data due to a firmware issue that cannot be resolved? the dealer told my friend it had to be replaced...

We just had an issue where it was seeing plenty of satellites, but not taking any observations. We messed around with it for hours, then the next day but put it away and haven't looked at it since.

Would be interested to hear what you find out!

We've had issues in the past with inability to export RINEX data because of older firmware/LGO clashes, and our ancient (2006) GPS-only Leica 1200 unit required a firmware update to fix the GPS-week rollover issue. Other than that, it still collects static data as far as I know but we haven't used it in a few months...

The only superior evidence is that which you haven't yet found.

There is a measurement engine firmware update available free of charge that will, fix the issue. It takes about five, mins to download and install. I'm on the road and can send it tonight if needed. Just shoot me an [email protected]

The local dealer here told the user that his could not be updated and he would need to purchase a new receiver, needless to say it was a black day in GPS land...

Maybe tell your friend to get a second opinion. We are running static GPS with 1200's (and 500's), no issues as far as I can tell.

I think that Bruce Small ran into this problem a few weeks ago and was able to correct it. On a Sunday. Your competitor is blowing smoke, Jeff.

As a second step, you may have to load the debug file, set-up your GPS, let it track for a bit and then delete that debug file from the system.
