I have several pieces of old equipment that I am thinking of just throwing away but would give to anyone who wants it and would pay for shipping
Zeiss S10 robotic instrument with radios
Trimble R8 (2)
Trimble 4700 (2)
Trimble 5700 (2)
Trimble R7 (1)
Trimble 4400 (1)
Intuicom RTK bridge (3G)
I believe these are functional, but I would verify that before shipping so that you don't pay to receive a dead unit. I have some other old gear (GPS antennas, etc) that I will post later...
I have already thrown away a lot of old gear but every time I do it pains me...
I might be interested in the R8s. Have batteries and chargers for them also?
@bstrand most likely I do, I will check this afternoon, and make sure they work
@john-hamilton Sounds good. Even if just the chargers work I think it's probably possible to find batteries? Anyway, I'll keep an eye out for your response.
I feel you John! I will probably have to do the same eventually. That 3G bridge may not work as a bridge, I upgraded both of mine to 4G, it may or may not, but most 3G is dead in NA anyway. It would still work as a low power base station radio.
Hi John - I'm interested in the R7 and 4400.
Thanks,
John
Some of these models are listed on eBay at prices that might be worth your time.
If you are going to the SHS event in Marietta, you might find some takers there.
I do have some batteries, they are pretty old. And a charger. Batteries are easy to get online.
I tested the two R8's using an external battery
Both collect GPS and Glonass.
8110: seems to work fine, connected data collector via bluetooth and downloaded data file. Has correct date. Power on/off works
8497: powers up when I apply external power. Appears that the power button does not work. I removed external power to shut down. This unit has the GPS week problem, it created a file with the date of January 27, 2006. I changed the date in the rinex file to todays date. I believe there is a program out there to change the date in a rinex file, I wrote one to change the date in a .dat file. Also, it has a bogus position in the header, which OPUS uses to get nearby CORS. I put in correct XYZ from the other rinex file.
Both processed in OPUS-RS, 43 minutes and 28 minutes, good results.
@millerjs The R7 does work, I had bought it used to use as a base station with a serial output to a cell modem, which worked fine. The 4400 does not power on, so not sure what is up with that. Let me know if you want one or both.
@bill93 Not sure if I am going, leaning towards yes, at least for Friday. Might not be a bad idea to take them along and see if anyone wants them.
They are good for static and OPUS.
I hadn't looked on ebay until Bill93 mentioned it, I am surprised at the prices for the R8's. The ones I have are model 2's. As I mentioned, one does have the infamous GPSweek problem.
I currently have 2 R10, 4 R10-2, and 2 Alloys. And just one employee. We do use multiple receivers in static mode on deformation surveys, but usually get by with one or two receivers each.
@john-hamilton - thank you for testing them. I'm definitely interested in the R7. I'm somewhat interested in the 4400, but haven't found clear information on what it weighs, so it may not be worth the trouble, even though I would really like to take a stab at repairing it.
As far as shipping things is concerned, one recommendation I'd like to make is to use a site called pirateship.com - they're used fairly heavily in the amateur radio community (I like to repair and trade broken ham radios as a hobby) and their prices for UPS and USPS are very good.

Very nice. I'd love to have the 8110, charger and batteries then if you're still willing to part with them.
Actually, I'll take the 8947 also if you'd prefer to get rid of both at the same time. I'd probably just keep it around for parts though, so if someone else wanted to fix the issues with it then they're welcome to have at it.
Does the 5700’s still work. I am interested in those. Do you have the zepher geodetic antennas if not if they will still log GPS data I am interested for sure.
sorry I haven't responded for a while, I was in Peru for a week, just got back.
I have decided to put together a list of all the stuff I want to get rid of (a lot). Some I will be willing to give away, some I will sell. I will post again when I have gone through all of my stuff.
5700 units make an awesome 4-wheeler topo GPS units. The little zepher antenna can sit on a rod or mount point as the 4-wheeler bounced around and it wouldn't damage the antenna like it can heaver integrated units. I would use them just for that after getting the R8's.
@mightymoe Yes they are tough units and great for that for sure. Great static units with geodetic antenna. I remember using 4000 doing the same exact thing Topo a field on an atv. When the S6 robot came out a guy bought one that I had previously set up doing continuous Topo on his atv with 5800 gps for wide open fields. So he wanted to do continuous Topo with the robot. I said yeah you can. His son was into those remote control cars the nice ones all gas built. We mounted a stubby 8 or 10” pole adapter on his son’s mini truck. He had already done a Topo on the asphalt so when we got to the old site as a check. We ran that thing all around all the big rigs trailers were parked so we set the S6 up as low as we could and he started driving that thing around just grabbing spot shots. It was funny as the son said dad I need more gas money if I am going to make you money like this lol.
If nobody has an interest in the Zeiss S10, I am interested in that one if it's functional and has batteries. It's the batteries that are the snag since they're different for all the instruments and hard to get sometimes.
Absolutely interested in the “Zeiss S10 robotic instrument with radios” batteries or not. I have a robot service expert who “owes me” a favor anyway
I love old robots! Lmk - I can arrange for shipping
