I have been getting more involved in our monitoring division here at work and am looking for books or some good literature to get more educated in it. I have found some online, but not much. Anyone have any good references that you feel strongly about?
I appreciate any info!
Setting slope monitoring mons this week. Would also be interested in any info on this subject. Could you possibly list internet references you have found? Thanks for the help
Go through the proceedings, year by year, on the FIG website
http://www.fig.net/resources/proceedings/index.asp
For example in 2016 you'll find this
http://www.fig.net/resources/proceedings/2016/2016_03_JISDM_programme.asp
And diving in further you'll find stuff like this:
http://www.fig.net/resources/proceedings/2016/2016_03_jisdm_pdf/nonreviewed/JISDM_2016_submission_81.pdf
it's an incredible resource, I have binders full of the stuff
I also recently bought this, but haven't had much time to look at it:
http://www.wiley.com/WileyCDA/WileyTitle/productCd-1119102510.html
From what I've seen, it's going to a really good resource as it's more about applied, than theoretical measurement. Some of the chapter titles are
- Standards and Specifications for Precision Surveys
- Accuracy Analysis and Evaluation of Angle Measurement System
- Accuracy Analysis and Evaluation of Distance Measurement System
- Accuracy Analysis and Evaluation of Elevation and Coordinate Difference Measurement Systems
- Survey Design and Analysis
- Three-Dimensional Coordinating Systems
- Deformation Monitoring and Analysis: Geodetic Techniques
- Deformation Monitoring and Analysis: High-Definition Survey and Remote Sensing Techniques
- Deformation Monitoring and Analysis: Geotechnical and Structural Techniques
- Mining Surveying
- Tunneling Surveys
- Precision Alignment Surveys
There's gold in them thar targets...I just sent out a low seven figure monitoring proposal :):):)
This is fantastic information. Thank you!

Thank you Mr. Fleming,
Excellent resources!
Jim: i just bought that book as well, haven't had a chance yet to read it. I try to buy a new book at the PA conference every year, that was this year's purchase.
Download the USACE manual...
Thanks for the link > Downloaded.. Just picked up that book as well. Should be delivered any day now.

"Precision Surveying" is a very good book imho.
Several of the above posters have got the book "Precision Surveying/ The Principles and Geomatics Practice by Dr. Ogundare.
As you work through the book you will come across some errors/typo errors.
On page 487, under (b); (which is about half way down the page) Correction due to temperature variation (delta h sub 1), 5th and 6th line down;
"they suggested that temperature T sub1 be measured at different levels (i) of about 3050m in the shaft"....
This should read 30 to 50 m (m = meters, I have added this just to make sure all know what m means).
