So I am new to the field of surveying, having started a position as an instrument operator this February. The company I work for mostly does construction surveying but there does not seem to be a lot of books on this aspect of surveying in particular. I was curious if anyone knows of any books or other resources in this area that they have found helpful.
Google "books by Paul L. Gay" for some affordable books that may answer some surveying questions for someone new to the industry.
Some survey specific books (unread by me) are:
- Construction Surveying & Layout by Paul Stuff ($54.95 on Amazon)
- Surveying with Construction Applications by Barry Kavanagh & Dianne Slattery ($200 at the Cal Poly Bookstore)
Good luck, and welcome to the forum.
<edit> a few more reference books:
- Construction Surveying & Layout: A Field Engineering Methods Manual by Wesley Crawford ($89.95 @ Forestry Suppliers)
- Elevating Construction Surveyors: A Step by Step Guide for Remarkable Surveying by Brandon Montero ($28.00 on Amazon)
- Surveying for Construction by William Irvine ($6.52 on ebay - worldofbooksusa)

Lots of how to, if you are new to construction work.
