Ironically, during the conversion, I had to make a difficult decision as to whether I should unban those who were previously banned (non-spammers, that is). I decided to give them amnesty without really making a big announcement about it. I suspect that many wouldn't last anyway, but I'm (we're) in a better position to handle it now and I've weaned myself off of the "three strikes, you're out" concept -- now it's just immediate banning after a single offense and walking away from it. If they show up, they show up, and we'll deal with it accordingly. Maybe things will go well (am I too optimistic?).
One of the previously banished users received the email with a reset password, then wrote to me to say that it wouldn't end well. So I added him back to the ban list.

Slight hijack about Durian (and other tropical fruit). I don't cut open durian around my family (only do that when they are out of town), but they do like durian in bubble tea (the ice masks the odor, mostly). But maybe you could help me identify the tropical fruit pictured below. had those in Brunei and though they were quite tart, they are an amazing fruit I cannot find here. i do see star fruit and pomelo at some markets now but not these "spiderman" fruit:
Aloha, Gavin:
It is a fruit from a species of palm Eleiodoxa conferta that is fairly popular in South East Asia as an edible fruit. I love them when they are made into preserves--that reduces the tartness significantly...
Check out https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eleiodoxa
Wow! I am impress to know you eat Durian! Not very many can do, unless they grew up with it:good:. I have successfully converted about six monks into eating it so far!:-D

That explains why, when I went to the Ted's profile page, it indicated that he had looked in on June 14. Yswami may get to experience the FULL TDD EXPERIENCE before he flames out again.
When I tried to find Keith,s page there was nothin there. Was he the one who declined? That's hard to imagine.

Ted Dura was a frequent poster on the old RPLS forum. At some point 10 or 12 years ago he changed his username to Ted Dura Dura because he lost his log in or changed his email, hence TDD. He was licensed in Colorado. He has a compound somewhere in the Rockies defended by 50 cal machine guns (according to him).
The classic TDD story was he entered a sewer manhole, got drenched in sewage so he went to a laundromat and stripped and laundered his clothes, something like that,
He also famously refused to drink water.
AND THEN THERE IS THE STORY OF THE MAGIC SURVEYING BANJO...
DDSM:beer::plumbbob::beer:
Theodore Dura from somewhere near Florissant, Colorado but began life in the northeastern US somewhere. He had surveyed in New England and Colorado and probably other places. His exploits were many and he was always the hero. Lover of cats and enough guns and ammo to supply a Middle Eastern nation full of terrorists. He worried too much about the notorious black helicopters that might be spying on him and threatening his security.
I always enjoyed his participation. Not that I usually agreed with him, but that he was entertaining. I believe he actually was a very good surveyor and one I would probably recommend to someone in his general area.

I'm fond of cats too - they taste really good

I had a friend who had a sticker on their car saying "cat - the other white meat".
My favorite TDD story was the one where he fell in the septic tank and had to float out! He's on facebook, rarely, but we're still in touch. It's amazing that we actually had work associates in common from his New Hampshire days.
For those who would want to see, I believe, his linkedin site:
I consider Ted a friend and a good man.
I do miss him.

Wow! That was pretty harsh! I have no idea those kind words were thrown at you for providing this free service to the community! I am so sorry if rekindled what should have left in the past! But I do see it now why he was banned. And why @Angel wants to pull our the whip! 😀 Thank you for giving the glimpse of it and protecting the users from similar experiences in the future. When I post the party emoticon in reply to Don's note...this wasn't the kind of party I had in mind. I was thinking for a challenging the each other opinion and view like we see on the occasion RTK discussion. Little do I know! Well...I wasn't there:-D Nice change of Avatar!

That was only one of the more mild emails I got from him...
at least it was in lower case!
I WONDER IF TDD WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THESE NEW ted MOVIES FEATURING THE FUNNY TEDDY BEAR?
He didn't like that I banned him for posting politics even though I clearly and nicely asked him to stop several times. I've given him more chances than anyone and he simply just does not like the fact that we do not allow politics and thinks he should get to post them anyway.
HEIR VENDELL CANNOT COMPETE IN HIS OWN FORUM-
HEIR VENDELL, YOU VIL NOT UTTER THE VERD POLITICS IN MY PRESENCE
NO VEY, IN ANY VEY, OR I VIL SEND YOU TO DA SHOWVAS !! VERBOTEN
I then told him that I owned the forum and that he was here by choice and didn't have to stay. I was not and never would force him to visit this website. Then I get this:
I UNDERSTAND YOU OWN THE FORUM WENDELL, RESPECT AND COURTESY EXTENDS BOTH WAYS, I HAVE NO AGENDA TO DAMAGE YOUR FORUM OR NAME--I FELT AND SOME OTHERS AS WELL FELT YOU JUMPED THE GUN, AND FROM MY SIDE OF THE FENCE I CLEARLY GOT THE PICTURE OF A VENDETTA AGAINST ME, I'M NOT SOME YOUNG TWIT THAT THROWS WORDS AROUND, I DO MY HOMEWORK AND USUALLY SPEAK FROM THE KNOWLEDGE OR THE LIVING SIDE OF ANY SITUATION--ONE DOESN'T LIVE 66 YRS SPEND 45 YRS IN A PROFESSION AND NOT KNOW THE INS AND OUTS OF IT--NOR AM I THE TYPE THATS SITS AT HOME AND LETS THE WORLD GO BY, I COULD DO THAT BEING RETIRED AND REASONABLY FINANCIALLY SECURE BUT I CHOSE NOT TO--I QUESTION EVERYTHING !!! I FEEL YOU WERE ACTING IRRATIONALLY OR FELT CHALLENGED WHEN YOU CUT ME OFF--I DO FEEL YOU OVER REACTED TO THE POST AND TO YOUR BEING CHALLENGED. I RESPONDED TO JOE THE SURVEYORS POST QUITE NICELY, EVEN ANGEL COMMENTED, I KNOW OF WHAT I SPEAK, I WAS IN THE THROWS OF THANKING HER AND KABAM-VERBOTEN !!
AS FORUM OWNER/MODERATOR ONE HAS TO UNDERSTAND THEY MUST USE DESCRETION GIVE POSTERS THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT IN WHERE THE CONVERSATIONS GO AND EXAMPLES QUOTED.WE DON'T ALL SEE THE WORLD THE SAME WAY, I AM VERY ANALYTICAL WITH MANY SOURCES OF INFORMATION, THAT SHOULD BE A BENEFIT TO YOUR FORUM, OTHERS PICK UP ON IT ???
YA KNOW I HAVE AN EMAIL, AND A TELEPHONE, IF I STRAYED OR YOU WISH ME TO CLARIFY, TEXT ME PRIVATELY, CALL ME --LETS SHARE DIALOGUE MAYBE A LAUGH OR TWO--I'M NOT A BAD GUY AND THINK I/M FUN TO BE AROUND--I AM A BIT CYNICAL BUT HEY I LAUGH AT MYSELF TOO.. PLEASE UNDERSTAND I MEANT NO HARM AND WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE ON YOUR FORUM--BY MY CHOICE, TO BE FRIENDS WITH YOU BOTH AND BE MAN ENOUGH ON BOTH SIDES TO SAY "WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?' AND NOT FEEL WE ARE ATTACKING OR CHALLENGING EACH OTHER, THIS IS A TWO WAY STREET EVEN THOUGH YOU OWN IT, WE CAN SHARE THE BI-WAY TOGETHER AND BE THE BETTER FOR IT-
KINDEST REGARDS,
TED DURA
I replied, "You compare me to Hitler and then you want to be nice? I've been here before and I won't fall for it again. Bye bye." At this point, I began to wonder why I was responding at all... but I got this back (previously posted):
that's exactly how your acting --be a scum bag !!!--don't ever come to denver--i'll be there to feed you your deserved lunch--you have no insight as to your manner --i wouldn't do any kind of business with a small minded bastard--stick your nazi mongering site up your ass ---sideways---tdd
I made one last reply, "oooooooooooh I guess you told me! LOL" which then led to this:
SURE DID !!! ASSHOLE !! YOU'LL GET YOURS ..TDD
I left it alone after that. There are other conversations from before this that I had forgiven him for, even though they contained far more profanities and threats of personal violence. I knew he was full of himself and I had let it go. But this last series of emails finished him off for me. And yet he could come back here now if he wanted to, but I suspect it wouldn't last long. The difference this time is that I wouldn't let him get to me -- one offense, then banned, with all emails from him completely ignored and reported as spam. I'm totally over it but happy to give people second, third, fourth, etc. chances because overall I believe we can all be nice if we really want to.
