Made a stop at the grocery store on the way home yesterday. As I was returning the cart to the entry area I met up with a group of about 6 girls around 8 or 9 years of age. They were trying to get out the same door I was trying to go in. As they didn't move out of the way promptly the "Dad" with them began to admonish them for their lack of action. He told them that they should show respect for older people and let them go first. He gave them a pretty good lecture as most were probably friends of his daughters and he had taken them all to the swimming pool for the afternoon.
Then it hit me......."older people"!
He was calling me "older people"!
No. Not me. Heck, I'm only 58 and not ready for the old folks home yet.
Reminded of when I was 20 and the 10 year-old newspaper delivery boy called me "Mr. Cow". I wanted to tell the kid that I was still a kid, too.
At 56 I still refuse to take advantage of Senior Discounts at the restaurants- dont know why - not ready for it - its a ego thing for me i guessB-)
I've had this same discussion with other people my age. I think I will always see myself as a kid or sorts. When I was a kid I always thought the adults knew everything and had it all together. I don't feel like I know everything or have it all together so I think in my mind I still kind of view myself as a kid. It is hard to explain. I don't perceive my self as old(er) but I know others do.
Old is at least 10 years older than I am. Always.
yeah.. but one day it will hit you.
I get a lot more "Mr. Robert"s these days and some polite people will linger at the door of stores. I try to dismiss them in a friendly manner. You need to stay active with younger folk to feel really old physically but younger mentally.
BUT... I really did like getting my LA fresh & saltwater fishing license plus hunting license all for $5 last week as a "senior". I actualy did a lil "Wahoo" yell in the store that attracted smiles from the younger folk.
My folks are in their 80's. They went on a trip a few weeks ago and were keeping up with people 20+ years their junior.
I sitll think of my self as I did when I was 25, but when the cute clerks in the gas station call you "hun" or "sweetie" you know how you are perceived.
I've always been young at heart and it means a lot to me to try and look 'dapper'.
Just the other day I was getting dressed and asked my wife, "Does this walker make me look fat?"
I'm 34 and still view myself as 21, 25, 18, or 16, depending on the situation. 🙂
It really hurts when a beautiful Co-Ed smiles and holds the door open for me ...
I hang around those that are 80 years old or older, they call me kid. Makes me feel young, compared to them, I am. Won't be 70 until August.

I was sitting in a bar last night with a friend. I pointed to two old drunks across the bar and said, "That's us in ten years."
My friend says, "That's a mirror dips&!t."
I'll be 70 in about a week, and I keep thinking about Mark Twain: "If you can't make 70 by a comfortable road, don't go."
Cheers,
I hang around those that are 75 years old or older, they call me kid. Makes me feel young, compared to them, I am. Won't be 69 until the first part of July.

You aren't old until you get winded playing ping pong with your nephew. CRAP! I'm getting old!
😛
Call me "Mr. Juelson" and I turn around to see if my dad is standing behind me! Today is "senior discount" day at the local stores. Was asked if I wanted my discount, "Hey, don't rush me!"
