He was found in full cardiac arrest and not breathing. I just read that he was transported to the hospital after paramedics were able to get a pulse. However, it is said he's been pulled from life support due to brain death. Very sad. A real good guy.
Too bad.
I heard an interview with him just after he became successful. He said the only job he had ever really liked, besides being a rock star, was that of a land surveyor.

I had no idea. Interesting.
I'm really sorry to hear that. When I was at UF in 1971 Tom and the Heartbreakers used to play at a bar called Sin City. The place was always packed when they played, and this was before they became superstars.
I had to break the news to Money Penny and she took it pretty hard.
She's got a keep-sake box in the closet. Therein is a couple of old ticket stubs from a Petty concert and an old cassette of his early stuff. I have no idea how long she will be in mourning.
RIP Tom...from one old "bad boy" to another. 🙁
I saw him this summer at the FBO at the airport I fly out of (Allegheny County). There was a group of 5 people or so that didn't look like they belonged on a private jet, but they had just gotten off. Someone there told me it was Tom Petty and his band here to do a concert. I would not have had any idea who it was. White hair.
Please bow your heads for 'Muddy' Wilbury...

[SARCASM]I'm shocked. He always looked like such a picture of health.[/SARCASM]
I bet it feels cold right about now.

I liked his XM radio show Buried Treasure.
It made me appreciate his tunes when you realized his influences and favoritess as a kid.
I was also a big fan of his and his XM radio show.

[INDENT]Petty??s antipunk reputation also earned him an early confrontation with Johnny Rotten. ??We were walking into our hotel lobby in England,? remembers Petty. ??I hear this snotty voice saying, ??Oh, it??s the American pop star Tom Petty.?? I ignore it, check into the hotel, and Stan and I start walking toward the elevator. We hear the same voice, kind of whining, ??There the hippies go. Bye-bye Tom.?? At this point, Stan wheels around and starts heading for whoever it is. He wants to kill.
??Well, it??s Johnny Rotten, surrounded by French journalists. Stan has to be restrained. I went over there and said, ??Who the f**k are you talking to??? Rotten immediately goes into his wounded-punk act, says nothing. There ain??t no Robin Hoods in rock, man. All that punk s**t was just a little too trendy. Costello??s okay. We played with him, but I couldn??t call him Elvis.?
Fired with confidence, Petty returned to the U.S. and found that ??Breakdown? was starting to hit on the charts. He had been particularly vocal overseas about being taken for granted by ABC in America, so when he arrived to renegotiate his contract after the success of ??Breakdown,? there was a phalanx of lawyers and label executives waiting for him. Petty emerged from the closed-door meeting wearing a triumphant smirk.
??Ever since them? says one ABC secretary, ??that whole band comes around here like they own the place. Nobody really knows what happened.?
According to Petty, ??I told all the lawyers that I had made a living a long time before I made records and if I couldn??t get a fair deal, I just wouldn??t record anymore. I meant it. I was fed up. We were being treated like we were stupid. We are not stupid.?
Then they gave in to your demands?
??No,? says Petty. ??I took a switch-blade out of my boot and started admiring the edge. Then we made headway.?

Yup, sounds like a land surveyor.
Sorry to hear of his passing. I've listened to him forever.
Did he really survey? I mean it seems like he was into music pretty much straight out of high school. In fact, from what I read, he dropped out of high school when he was 17 and started playing in a band. I'm sure some of his earliest years he probably had to have a day job....maybe then.?
