I'm a little late to the party but my recommendation would have been the southern route to Flagstaff and then up through Las Vegas, Reno, to I5 at Yreka. This is the route I took from OKC to Portland just before Christmas 2013.?ÿ Longer? Sure. But way more opportunities to hunker down comfortably if the road gets closed. And more last minute alternative routes.?ÿ ?ÿ ?ÿ ?ÿ

Agreed, but the weather is looking downright nasty about the time we'd be hitting Shasta and the Siskiyous. That was my original preferred route. But as I see weather patterns on extended forecasts, it looks like the northern route will be clear sailing.

Just don't let your Tom-Tom sucker you into some Forest Service Road "shortcut" and you should be fine.?ÿ?ÿ

Some late advice. Avoid I-95 in Virginia. They seem to be having some problems.

@lurker?ÿ

I don't think Wendell needs to worry about Virginia.?ÿ Maybe someone else here will benefit from the info.

@bill93 Yes. I realize Virginia is not between Arkansas and Seattle. It was meant to be humorous.

Wendell, to keep you informed, it's super cold right now. That's probably good since you won't be passing through here till next week. Weather looks seasonal and dry next week,,,,,,,,so far. Today would have been iffy. Windy, snowy, and -18 for a low tomorrow. Yuck!!!!

Yes, I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the extended forecast for the entire northern route. Great timing, but still crossing my fingers it stays that way...

FYI?ÿ ?ÿAs you pass through Nevada (Nuh-vay-duh) Missouri (Miz-er-uh), be sure to take time to learn just what it is exactly that a Bushwhacker does.?ÿ They set aside certain days each year to celebrate Bushwhackers.?ÿ Which reminds me.?ÿ While in Fayetteville be sure to note the building on campus with a north tower and a south tower.?ÿ One is taller.?ÿ There's a story behind that.

@nate-the-surveyor Why did you have to go and say THAT??ÿ Nobody is going to sugggest driving from Fayettville, Arkansas to Washington State via Mississippi or Louisiana!?ÿ What's wrong with Mississippi or Louisiana anyway??ÿ Both have I 10 and I 20 running East/West throught them as well as I 55 in Mississippi and I 49 in Louisiana running North/South!?ÿ And I'd like for you to tell me a better route for great food.

Whatever route you choose drive safe.

Iƒ??m afraid the food would be fine. But, the miles goes up, and daughter has to get there on a time line.?ÿ

That and what happens to every Interstate in FL during a hurricane evacuation is what prompted the suggestion. ?????ÿ

I would plan my route on which one gets me to a taco time faster.
