40 years ago Chattanooga was hit by a terrible snow storm.?ÿ 10 to 12 inches of snow on top of frozen streets made traffic a nightmare.?ÿ The night before the temperature had gotten down to below zero.?ÿ That might not be bad for some folks but for us Southerners that's dang near fatal.
I remember the date because that's the day I brought my wife and baby girl home from the hospital.?ÿ I went to the airport to pick up my mother in law and saw the first snow flake fall...and it stuck.?ÿ It was only 15 minutes to my home and we almost didn't make it.
Kinda makes fellow feel old to realize he has a 40 year old.

Wait until your kids are fifty and you've got grand kids halfway to forty.?ÿ I don't need anything to make me feel old...I am old. 😉

I've been in 3 different, 5-generation pictures: I was a little Boy, I was a Dad, and I was a Granddad.
When my mom died in 2007, she left me to be a Great Great Granddad, for the fourth one. I sure do miss her...
We got about 14" of snow last night here. Tomorrow the temperature is expected to be -10^ . My kids are 19 and 21.
Just got a call to do work in Orlando in February. Life is starting to look good.
39 years ago this week I was starting fill week at 2nd PLT A BTRY 4th TNG BTLN in Ft Sill. 7 of us in the bay for a week as we waited for all the BSEP troops to come over so we could start the training cycle??
40 years ago I was getting ready to head back for the 2nd on-campus semester of my MS degree.?ÿ I was on, or had just got back from, a successful troubleshooting trip for the company, called back during school break to work on something I had helped with before going on leave, and the extra week's pay was welcome.?ÿ
Yeah, time sure flies. I think I still have most of the class notes in a file cabinet that I'd have to move a "few" things to get open.?ÿ There's really not much need to keep them now that my brain is out to pasture.
I was preparing to get married in August of 1982 at the ripe old age of 22. Not the best decision I ever made, but hey, life is a journey and we remain friends to this day. We had no children or assets to divide, so that helped. I tell people that she "traded up." Lives in a 10,000 sf home, with properties all over North America, including in the Big Horn Country Club community in Palm Desert, San Francisco, and multiple properties in Hawaii. They travel in their private jet. I picked good stock, just was unprepared to live up to her expectations. It's okay, I would hate living in that mansion. Seriously.
Married first wife 38+ years ago, still married, children 34 & 31, Grandson 7.
started first F/T surveying job 37 years ago. First guhmint just 27 years ago. First state job 21 years ago.
Time flew for me. I had just been kicked out of the house by my first ex wife. Those were difficult times. Things have improved steadily since that general low water mark
I was young.?ÿ Enough said.

I was the super for a paving contractor on post about that time.?ÿ We widened Sheridan Rd. from the south gate to the Burger King. We hit every buried utility imaginable.?ÿ I was even lucky enough to hit the buried power to the drive up bank..on a payday Friday afternoon.?ÿ I've never been flipped the finger by so many uniformed personnel in all my life.?ÿ ?ÿ
Something to remember about Ft. Sill:?ÿ If the weather man says it's 100 degrees it's 110 in Lawton.?ÿ
40 years ago today I was 16 years old. That is all I can legally divulge.?ÿ
40 years ago I had already been married for more than 10 years to my first wife and had two kids.?ÿ I described my occupation at the time as "beating plowshares into swords".?ÿ ?ÿWas still two years short of buying my first house, but only about a year away from buying my first farm.
And even more now....

I was also effected by that same blizzard as far south as Augusta Ga.?ÿ Week off from school and snow forts, snow ball fights?ÿ sledding(was great thanks have neighbors that came from up north previously) and just outdoor pandemonium that made pre teen life memories of a lifetime.

@paden-cash My daughter and sonin law are living in Lawton right now.?ÿ His is stationed at Ft Still.?ÿ It's a far cry from the Pinelands of NJ, where they both grew up.
Forty years ago I was a homeless 16 year old teenager in LA and life was rough but it made me tougher and wiser than most.
You don't have to live in the south to have your butt handed to you by winter. The 2nd. of January of this new year, began one of the strongest wind storms I've experienced in my 25 years here. For five days straight we had 50 mph winds with gusts up to 90 mph, flipping semis, ripping roofs off and dropping trees everywhere, including on the power lines. Power went out that first evening and was off at my place for four solid days. Mind you the temperatures were around zero and many homes have boilers that require power to operate and many, many had their pipes frozen, which is not good, unless you're a plumber or sell carpet. I faired well having backup wood heat and plenty of water stored away. I call it 'The Big Suck' and boy did it ever.?ÿ
