The crime deserving of public executions is that of cyberattack. Late Saturday evening while quietly searching for some equipment online my monitor lit up like a Christmas tree with warnings of system infections and the immediate need to acquire new antiviral protection. I could do absolutely nothing. NOTHING. The only thing that might work wanted a $79.95 per year payment and my credit card number. That wasn't going to happen for several reasons, including the fact that I have no credit cards.

I finally got the computer to the Computer Doctor on Monday. I got it back this morning. $55 and 100 miles of driving later. Meanwhile, several clients were hot on my tail for work that was locked up in a high dollar paperweight.

As to the public executions. What would be the best terminal punishments for these scumsuckingdogs? Blood loss via removal of digits, one by one, in a slow ceremonial type event? Forced ingestion of ground glass and razor blades? Insertion in a large microwave oven? Parachute drop, without the parachute? All of the above?

When you see the alert saying that there is a virus and it asks you to click the yes or no button, never click inside for any reason, just click the top right x or go to task manager and end program......don't click in the yes or no box or they have gotten you, basically they need your participation and trick you into clicking the accept button.

I think "All of the above" would be unecessarily redundant.;-)

Better yet, don't even click the X because they have gotten even sneakier by making a false window. You click anywhere on that window and you are doomed. So the best way to kill these things is CTRL + ALT + DEL and then end the process in Task Manager. Then boot into Safe Mode and clean that sucker out.

Sounds like Antivirus 2011 (aka Anti-Virus 2011, Antivirus 2010, Antivirus 2009, Win 7 Security 2011, etc.) got you. I have cleaned several computers at work, my wife's computer, and two of my friends computers because of it. There are several free programs that will remove it.

If you have XP or later you can reboot in safe mode do a "System Restore" from the Start/Accessories/System Tools menu.

That function has saved my computer several times from those browser hijacker type viruses.

I ran into the same thing on my XP machine last year, more than once. It worked for me. Your own mileage may vary.

What I had wouldn't let me do anything. Everything I clicked on would give me some window about a virus infection. Luckily I found something that would work. I got on another machine and downloaded something called rkill and Malwarebytes. I started my machine in safemode and ran rkill on it. That killed the virus, until the next restart. Then I installed and ran Malwarebytes. That fixed the problem.

Malware Bytes will clean it up, and lesson learned. Heck even I go to unsafe sites once in awhile.

The $55 fee sounds pretty reasonable. I paid substantially more to get it removed from my new laptop a while back. It took me completely by suprise!! I wish I'd been able to read this thread before I started clicking!!!

Admin and "non-admin" user accounts

Wendell's suggestion is a good one. I'm a one-man show, and am slowly learning to do my own IT work. I've got 3 business computers which at various times during any given day will be accessing the internet for one reason or another. My highspeed DSL provider has a pretty decent firewall, but nastiness can (and does) still storm the gates. I keep Task Manager running at all times, on all computers. Task Manager is your friend. You can shut down unwanted processes quickly and hope that they don't immediately restart. Even if they do, after ending the unwanted process, it may give you time to shut down and reboot in safemode. Additionally, with TaskManager running you can contantly monitor your CPU usage--- which is a real good thing.

Another thing I learned is to create two separate user accounts on each computer. One is an administrator account with all permissions. The other is a non-admin account which only allows restricted use and disallows any new software installations whether you want them or not.

90% of the time, (unless I know I am intentionally going to download and install new and desired software from the internet) whenever I access the internet for any other reason (even to check out BeerLeg), I log in from the non-admin account.

Theoretically this prevents any incoming hack or virus software from installing on the given computer. I learned this the hard way a couple of months ago, and it has worked well for me since.

What would be the best terminal punishments for these scumsuckingdogs?

So to answer the actual question.

I would think something that removes their direct ability to continue with their heinous egregious offenses would be a good place to start.
Hammering the fingertips then slowly removing the fingernails with pliers.
Subject them to ear drum shattering decibel levels of Celine Dion.
Facial spray of acid to slightly disfigure and partially blind them but give it a nice fruity flavor as they’ll be apt to then taste it as well.
This would be a prime stopping point in my mind as for death would be a welcome sight to them by now.

I think a "Wyoming Rope Ride" would be appropriate. :-)

The local shop that builds my PC's instructs their clients(when you happen to get one of those probable viral pop up nasties)to just turn the power off on the machine. Nothing more, nothing less. Works for me.

My laptop has a hardware switch on the front that allows me to break the internet connection. On desktops, I pull the network wire from the rear before doing anything. This allows me to prevent them from loading me up with additional crap if I make a wrong move.

I tried the 'turn it off' approach. That did nothing to help.

You may have also noticed that the Administrator account, by default, has no password. That's a huge security hole right there. The first thing anyone should do when they buy a new computer is create a password for the Administrator. Then, use the standard account for normal tasks.
