I e-mailed all the "legislators" and here is one response:
"RE: Professional Surveying and Mapping

From: "Nunez, Jeanette"
Thank you for recently writing to my office in regards to PCB BCAS11-01 & PCB BCAS 11-02. Your concerns and comments are of the utmost importance to me. Yesterday in the Business and Consumer Affairs Committee, we heard approximately 3 hours of testimony from many industries. There are a few points I would like to address given the complex nature of this bill. I firmly believe in fostering a climate that is conducive to Florida businesses. Furthermore, I believe we need to remove government involvement and intrusion in many of our industries that serve as a barrier to access and competition. I think we all can agree that we need to get our economy moving again and eliminate obstacles for business, empower the private sector to create jobs and provide greater freedom to our citizens. The PCB alleviates unnecessary restrictions for entry into certain professions.
That being said, I recognize that there are real and significant unintended consequences to deregulating certain industries. While I supported the bill, I did so with the understanding that we will continue to work collaboratively to address some of the issues that were raised during committee. If you would like to discuss further, please feel free to contact me at either the Miami office at (305) 227-7630 or at the Naples office at (239) 434-5094.
Thank you,

I'd sure like some opinions/comments on this !
Y'all have a great week! 🙂
Looks like typical form letter, but just the same call and leave a message with the secretary. Always nice knowing that your duly elected representatives can't be bothered to respond over such a critical issue.....on the other hand think of all the work to come after the unlicensed folks do damage and the error is realized!
Sounds like she is clueless. Not one mention about our industry in general.
Kind of looks like a form reply that an aide copies and pastes on all emails pertaining to the bill. I'd stay on top of it.
"to remove government involvement and intrusion in many of our industries that serve as a barrier to access and competition"
That sounds more like the leaders throwing in the towel against pleas from the surveyors that they are licensed because they were educated enough to pass the state exam, which is a necessity. At the same time throwing professionalism under the bus.
It is totally unbelievable that a so called educated class of government officials believe that the current licensing act in any state is in any way an obstacle to creating jobs.
Would passage of this bill exclude Florida surveyors from performing FEMA related certificates such as elevation certificates?
Could this bill be a grab for more work going to Engineers? That's the way it seems from my viewpoint.
Wow, if she has an office in both Miami and Naples, that must be one long gerrymandered district!
Hire a lobbyist, pronto! Don't lose your professional status!
I got the same email on Tuesday from her.
here is the response I got.. vote was down party lines, Dems against, Reb. for.
Dear Mr. Johnson,
Thank you for contacting my office regarding PCB 11-01.
First, let me tell you that prior to this bill being voted on I was able to speak with Chair Bovo in regards to my concerns with this piece of legislation.
After which he proposed an amendment, which passed today, that removed barbers and cosmetologists from the industries that will be deregulated.
While I believe this is a good first step, I understand that there are still many industries like Geologists that are still included in this bill, and because of that I voted “no.”
It is because of constituents like yourself, that I was successful in convincing the sponsor of this bill to remove these industries from the list of industries that would be deregulated. I wanted to let you know that I am hopeful that Chair Bovo will continue to work on this piece of legislation.
Thank you again for writing my office, and please feel free to contact me in the future with any other concerns.
Sincerely,
Joelle Capua

I'm so glad that the freaking barbers and cosmetologists seem to have better state organizations than surveyors these days. Isn't this the kind of thing we should have known about before 5 days before the voting? Where does our PAC fund donation actually go? Is FSMS asleep at the wheel, or is this some kind of plan. Who wrote this piece of garbage? I have some thoughts that I don't want to write about just yet...

> Hire a lobbyist, pronto! Don't lose your professional status!
I agree, now it the time to hire a gun.
I received the same email, and a couple others...
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you...
I hope you didn't put as much effort into your e-mail to legislators as her office did generating that mass recipient form letter to you. Just saying. That letter speaks volumes as to what she thinks of your opinion and concerns.
