Wages are so location specific. What is great in one part of the country is horrible in another. Do some research in your area and find going rates. Around here wages are pretty low. Fast food folks earn maybe $8 an hour so $15 an hour attracts a lot of people. Now if McDonaldƒ??s is paying $15 an hour in your area be prepared to pay a lot more.

I had 2 years of rodman ($9/hour in 2006) experience before graduating with a geomatics bachelor of science this past spring. I'm not very good at valuing benefits but I think I started at about 50K total compensation. While I was in the program I talked with a surveyor who hired high school kids for summer help but couldn't get them to come back. I'm not sure what he was paying them but he asked me what I thought would be a fair wage. I said I didn't know and guessed $12-15/hour. Based on his reaction I think he was paying less.

I've never run a business but I like to think people get what they pay for.

Man, when I started out as a cad tech, I was making $5.50/hr. It would depend greatly on your regional cost of living, but I would think a green person would be starting out at 30-35k/yr.

Minimum wage in Oregon is currently $11.25/hr. Every fast food place pays that and they don't make them work in the rain. If you expect to get anybody you can stand to have around you are looking north of $15/hr.
