Get rid of it already. I love the dollar coins, and from a GOVT money saving venture, it's a nobrainer. Im also eager to see what happens at the bitty-tar when coins are getting tossed around.
> As long as we can do away with the penny....
Where will it go?
Would you be in favor of giving it to the government?
How long would it take to pay off the national debt, if every transaction rounded up to the nearest quarter and that money went to paying back China?
Something I've been thinking about for a while; hope nobody goes all political on me...:-X

Two words - "making change".

They are actually named "Shoe Shows". They MUST be shoe shows because that's ALL they're wearing.:-P

I favor both the dollar and the penny proposals.
I like that panhandling for "spare change" could become more lucrative.

For those of you who would like to see the one dollar bill, as well as the penny, go the way of the dodo, please, send them to me and I'll properly dispose of them.
Thanks in advance.
I think you should:
Ditch the penny, and the $1 note.
Adopt a sensible system like in Australia. 😛

Doesn't a coin cost more to produce than a bill?
I prefer to not have a coin purse on my person.
I never understood the argument that it cost more than a penny to make a penny or that dollar coins are cheaper because they last longer. I'm sure they more than make up for the loss with the 20, 50, and 100 dollar bills.
And use plastic notes that don't wear out so fast.
I think the coin initially costs more to produce but lasts 30 yrs vs. 4-5 for paper.
I was stationed in Germany in the early nineties before the Euro. Of course they used marks not dollars but they had coins for 1,2,5, and 10 marks. Sounds like a pain, but in reality I could leave post with what looked like enough coins to by a couple of sodas and be out on the town all night without ever having to reach for my wallet.
Something you may not have considered.
Has your wife been to Subway world headquarters in Milford, CT? I surveyed that building.
Kinda that way with cars aint it?
After you guys get rid of the paper $1 and the penny, could you do something about the 9/10 of a penny the gas station wants me to pay with. 😀
Gas is never going to go back to the days of one station being 15.8 cents and the guy across the street being 15.7 cents. So get rid of those stupid signs.
[sarcasm]But $2.99 with the 9/10 off to the side looks so much more appealing than $3.00[/sarcasm]
Coin Quiz
Without reaching into your pocket or change jar:
Which US coins have the numeric value, in digits, written on the coin?
> ... could you do something about the 9/10 of a penny the gas station wants ...
Getting rid of the penny would be a step in that direction.

I don't think any of the coins one is likely to have in his pocket have that.
