Driving to work and the local news had a story about a robber who was robbing storage units.

Seems he had broken into over a dozen and sold off what he could.?ÿ

Why, why, why didn't he do mine!!!!!

I would have paid him to!!!!

?ÿ

Don't worry.?ÿ He'll be broke soon.?ÿ It's just like the old farmer story involving a couple young farm lads of some designated ethnic background buying hay bales locally and hauling them a couple hundred miles to sell.?ÿ The old story has the buying price as a dollar per bale and the selling price as a dollar per bale.?ÿ The lads are beginning to realize they are losing money so one suggests to the other they buy a bigger truck.

@holy-cow

I listened to the story, it kept getting worse. He got caught, thrown in jail, was let out, cut off his monitor, violated each term of his bail. Now he's back in with $100,000 cash only bond. They said he is looking at 100 years, of course that will be reduced.

There are probably lots of people like me looking for a way to get rid of junk that could use his services. He should have done it legally as a business. You would still have to figure a way to make it look like a robbery without getting the police involved.

@mightymoe

I'm curious. Is there any old transits in your storage unit?

Would you pay my gas to come up?

🙂

@nate-the-surveyor

I'm fairly sure there is nothing you would want. Do you still have a VCR player, there are VCR tapes.

That's funny to me.?ÿ I have a small 15" tv in my garage that has a slot on the front for a video cassette.?ÿ Don't remember where I got it or why, but it's probably at least 25 years old.?ÿ I have the remote duct-taped to the rear.?ÿ

Who ever eventually turns it on will need to vacuum all the bugs and webs out of it first...turning on an old dusty crt can be an enlightening experience.?ÿ

Yeah, my garage got broken into last week. The bastard left two bags of old clothes and didn't take anything.

My luck.

With all this pandemic free time the truly unpleasant Ms. PLS has been boxing things up to go to Goodwill or some other outlet because "its not junk and someone can use it".?ÿ My car is full of said boxes awaiting one of the destinations to open up to accept them.?ÿ I am not the only person with this "issue" as the bin in front of our church has been engulfed with similar boxes.?ÿ I never thought about breaking into someones garage to leave the stuff....

I know someone who owns storage units. ?ÿWhen they donƒ??t pay, itƒ??s just like Storage Wars on TV. ?ÿShe has a auction except no one shows up to bid so she gets the stuff inside, which is 99% junk. ?ÿShe has a garage sale once or twice a year and sells it all cheap. ?ÿ

That's similar to the activity at amateur radio swap meets, known as "Reverse Shoplifting" whereby if you aren't paying attention you might end up with more old electronics than you arrived with.

Now that's funny for anyone that gardens regularly.?ÿ There's nothing like trying to give a neighbor a sack of tomatoes and coming back home with the tomatoes AND a sack of crookneck squash and okra.

Eat what you can and can what you can't.?ÿ😉

One year I grew a bunch of cabbages, couple dozen. Don't know what the heck I was thinking, I don't even like cabbage. Thought about building a catapult but that seemed like too much work, so every unlocked car on the next block found a cabbage sitting in the drivers seat. That'll teach'em not to leave their cars unlocked.

Just because I'm paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get me.

They opened up the Goodwill, near me and the line to donate was down the street, and around the corner...

@john-putnam

I remember now why I bought that tv.  We were doing a sewer rehab job that had a recent video inspection.  The display showed the footage and we were determining the location of the wye saddled as some were under pavement and some weren't.  It saved us a bunch of time by not running back and forth to the sewer maintenance supervisors office.

I believe that was 1995...you know, just a year or two ago..

Summer of 1980 I was running lines in East Tennessee and we had permission to go across the Bush Bros Farm that was about 30 miles North of Gatlinburg. We just had to let the farm manager know who we were and where we would be working before we could proceed. We found him at the silage pit where they had been dumping old cabbage. To this day, I have never smelled anything worse.

I had a grandmother that was born in Germany.?ÿ She and her sisters all spoke with a strong German whang all their lives.?ÿ When visiting, my brother and I were stationed on her back porch to play.?ÿ One perennial object there was a huge 10 gallon crock where she made her kraut.?ÿ We were always cautioned to stay away from the crock that was usually covered with old towels.?ÿ

Holden and I had to take a peek one day...

It took me a few years to get that sight (and smell) out of my head.?ÿ I still love sauerkraut, but I get it in a jar at the grocery store.
