But good golly it's like drinking from a firehose. The work won't stop coming. I've lost count of projects on my desk. I have been jumping from fire to fire today fixing OPP (other people's problems). HELP!

Back to the drawing board.

And another job just walked in the door. Existing customer. New cemetery garden. Now scheduling projects into the middle/end of October.

Lawyer called the other day on trespass to try title suit that I talked about a few months back. Round 2, trespasser 2 court date Friday at 1:30pm. Didn't have time for it, but the professional witness expert fees reduce the sting.

Regarding hiring anyone, the owner has been here since 1951. He's been through so many boom and bust cycles that he is loathe to take on new employees. It's a strong mentality in all the local businesses who have watched good times dry up quicker than spit on a hot sidewalk. Takes a long time for companies to gear up and they are lightning fast to let go.

Maybe it's time to "raise our rates".

I sorta hear ya Andy. I'm drinking from a fire hose right now. I'm learning someone elses' line of business (annuity financial advisor) plus some 3rd party database that was built about 15 years ago. These guys want their site rebuilt and enhanced by Nov 1.
Until 2 weeks ago I didn't know what an annuity is. Nevermind their ratings, classes, benefits and all kinds of freakin parameters and characteristics about an annuity. Sometime in there I'm also suppose to have my program develop, and send over the web, graphs and PDF documents all created on the fly.

Ring Ring

Oh, God, the phone just won't stop ringing.

23 acre site with 3 large industrial buildings. Existing customer.

Caller - "Can you stake my site next week?"

Me - "You've got to give us as much advance notice as possible. Everyone is real busy out here right now. Will call you back when we have it scheduled."

Me - "Maniacal laugh"

Glad to hear it man.

Every year it seems to happen that right before deer season we hit a little lull. And every year I think 'this will be the year I have the free time to hunt the way I want to'. Then, like clock work every year right before the season starts we get covered up with work. We are in the lull now and I am dreaming of a slow fall but kinda hoping it picks up like usual. as steve earle says, i ain't ever satisfied.

Get it all while you can!

Monday afternoon I got a call from a frequent client to do small boundary job. I ignored my office phone all day. Found five other new jobs offered to me on the answering machine. We are already at least a month behind. One of the other local firms has temporarily stopped taking anything but major jobs.

The phone can go silent just as quickly.

Hey FLS!!!

Being 62 and a NY PLS there are not many folks that want to put me on the payroll...my ship sank after I hooked up with a DBE that laid me off as soon as the state budget croaked for design surveys. Shovel ready meant nothing more than milling and paving!!! This will catch up to them soon!!!

What my interest is now...can't earn too much or they take it away on social security, but I still know how to "SURVEY" !!!

All you guys that get busy, find an old fart who just wants to still play!!

Busy here too. I'm skeptically optimistic, though. Next month may be quiet as a mouse and this winter may be stone-cold dead (again).

Problem is, everyone thinks we should be able to get the work done right away (ie tomorrow).

We have been pretty slow for about the last 6-8 months, working day to day. BUT in the last two weeks we have taken on some good size projects and have enough work to keep us going through fall and winter. Feels good to know what I am gonna be working on again.
