I had the same one for years and it was quite ugly but did the job.

What do you think of the new one? It's a work in progress so any input and ideas would be greatly appreciated. I used a template to create it my attempts at making one from scratch did not go so well.

Looks good. Maybe even better on mobile.

I recommend that you move the "About Us" content to the home page and dispense with "About Us". Or else use "About Us" for a face shot of yourself and a little more about your personal history.

Ditto Mark's comment. I would also put the contents of the brochure, which seems a little crowded and busy as web pages go, on the page(s) in a little cleaner form and have a PDF download link for the brochure in case they want a copy.

Following up with Bill's comments -- If you put the text contained in the images into the pages as actual text, you'll fare better from an SEO (search engine optimization) standpoint. It will also appear better on mobile devices (right now, it's tiny text even on a huge phone with a 6" screen like mine).

I also agree with Mark's statement that the about us page contents would do well on the home page. This would be an improvement in the user experience but also in terms of SEO.

Another tip would be to try to determine a phrase that might be searched for by someone Googling for your type of services in your area. For example, "West Virginia Land Surveyor". Then, use it as a title on the homepage somewhere (using heading tags, such as H1, H2, H3). Follow it up with a brief summary paragraph that explains your services. Google (and other search engines) will pick up on this and hopefully it will help you get found more often.

If you have a physical office location, be sure to put that on the homepage (better yet, ALL pages, like in the header or footer). Then create a Google+ page (yes, it's not just for Google employees) with your address, coverage area, etc. Even though G+ isn't a big deal in terms of the social networking landscape, you are feeding the monster directly and you may eventually appear in the local search results at the top of an appropriate Google search. In other words, you could conceivably appear HIGHER than the #1 listing if you have a physical office location and make that clear to everyone. 🙂

I'll update the brochure and do something with 'about us'. I want to ad more to it but what can I say. I'm boring. I'll figure out something to add about the company or do away with it.

I added a 'sample plats'. My internet is slow can somebody check it to see if it takes a gazillion years to load with normal internet? I might need to size down the plats more.

I also added a slideshow to the home page. It needs more I think though or moved.

Thanks for all the input.

How long have you lived in WV? In Spencer? When did you start surveying? Who was your mentor? When did you get licensed? Your military service. Your family. Your hobbies.

Your sample plats take less than 5 seconds to load. They look pretty good, too.

The sample plats load quickly for me but I'm probably not the best judge of that.

FWIW, the plats are gorgeous. That may be the best selling point of the entire website! 🙂
