I retired last September as the Deputy City Surveyor of Denver Colorado. I spent 27 years in the private sector and the last 14 years in the public sector. I stumbled onto surveying back in 1979 and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. It happens that the City Surveyor also retired on the same day I did. The City is currently searching nationwide for candidates to compete for the City Surveyor position. I found working for the City to be rewarding both professionally and economically. On the professional side there something like 10 Professional Land Surveyors in the department. There was time available to research the records (160 years worth), to discuss the issues with fellow professionals, and no profit based urgency to get it out the door. On the economic side there is medical insurance, health savings, retirement savings, and a pension plan. I would highly encourage any of you looking for a capstone to your career to look into this position. Here is a the link: Denver City Surveyor

I saw that posting...Looks like a good job. Not many Cities actually have surveyors. Denver real estate prices are just out of control.

@warrenward

I got the "role model" impression from reading the job listing.?ÿ Nice to see a well written listing that conveys the importance of the job within the city opposed to generic human resource written listings.?ÿ Jp

If the job was retirement, I'd be all over that.
