... to help me get to the final couple transitions so I can take my experience and move forward and eventually get licensed.

I keep picking places that don't have good mentorship or people retire so the pitfalls of the industry and my age are becoming a closed circuit to failure.

so any suggestions or input would be greatly appreciated from all of the people on the board thank you

I would recommend looking at a government agency--local, state, or federal.?ÿ You mentioned your age.?ÿ For a lot of surveyors, this occupation works out because long hours, working weekends, and putting up with BS is easy to do in your 20s.?ÿ It's kind of what your 20s are for.?ÿ However, if I were trying to enter the profession mid-life I'd be looking at the stable hours and predictability of gov't work, even if the pay and prestige are lower.

I agree with Frozen, excepting the assertion that public workers hold lower prestige, at least in my estimation.

In my limited experience people train you to perform tasks that make them money. If you want to learn legal surveying you need to find someone who you will make money for by doing that work for them.?ÿ

Formal education may be a better bet.

Mentorship is often presented in the recruitment period but not materialized once the commitment has been made.

@party-chef?ÿ

I'm in the program at NMSU slowly getting through the classes I didn't take in my first degree program.

I'm on board with the process.

@jitterboogie?ÿ

  • Join your state society/association
  • Go to the State Conference or National NSPS

?ÿ

Mentorship in the?ÿ workplace can be hit and miss; the boss has work to do, and so do you. The best you can do is watch and learn. Take on those tough tasks, and if you fail, make sure someone is there to catch your mistake; learn from your mistakes. Better yet; learn from other people's mistakes.

?ÿ

?ÿ

Good luck!
