Field crew needed. We currently run Topcon TS w/ TDS, Topcon Robot w/ TDS and Topcon GPS w/ TopSurv. Experience a plus but not necessary. Must have some proficiency in mathematics. Must be willing to run / walk at a brisk pace. Immediate termination if I can outrun you before my 2nd cup of a coffee.

Seriously? I would prefer employees who take their time and do it right.
Good luck anyway.
I am sure he wants employees who do things right, same as you. Why do you prefer the ones who work (comparatively) slowly?
You don't miss much when you are moving slower, running and or brisk walking serves little purpose in the overall scheme. There is a BIG difference between lazy and slow though.
I don't want to mess up his want ad with a bunch of banter. Is there any way to send a private message?

I like to add: Slackers need not apply

One day last week one of my crew collected nearly 900 topo points. The check shot at the beginning of the data was off the BS by 3 feet horizontal and 0.2' vertical. The check shot at the end was off by 0.9' vertical. Spent a lot of time trying to rescue that data before finally throwing it out.
Yes, I would have preferred 400 good points over 900 useless ones.
5 traverse points
4 sideshots
in light brush (less then 2' in height)
2,000 foot walk from truck on a cleared path
perfect closure
1.5 days
i could have done it faster alone
Had a guy 2 years ago that spent a full day collecting 22 points of topo on a county road from prepared control. That was pretty much a good day for that guy. It had nothing to do with how fast he could walk. Forrest Gump could run like the wind.

Wow. I'm not fast; there are full time field guys that can blow me out of the water, but that's just ridiculous.
Personally, I like it Thad
I kinda feel that if my guys are not up to speed and feel that they are not ready to go out and leap and bound all day by the time I've had my second cup of coffee, then they should get a job somewhere else.
The guy that takes twice as long to complete a job as another guy that gets the same results in half the time does not get paid twice as much because it took twice as long.
End result is that if this guy wants to keep working for half the pay of everyone else, then he can be the gopher if I need one on the job.

You gotta watch out for those guys that can outrun you.....
Target Runner
It's Target Runner, not Target Walker.
Carry on.
A Case for Women Field Crew?
I saw this show once where they tested men against women by giving them a list of ten things to do, mostly silly stuff and the one to complete the list first was the winner.
Nine out of ten of the men would immediately start with the first item on the list and proceed to go through them one at a time, as quickly as possible. The women won nearly every time. The last item on the list was directions to ignore the first nine items and sign their name.
Give me a hand that slows down enough to think about what they're doing, every time.
I'll come work for you May -September.
