Out of curiosity, I'd like to ask you fine folks about your state's surveying organization.
(1) Does your state land surveying organization publish a newsletter?
(1a) If so, would you be so kind as to drop a link in the comments?
(1b) Are there specific topics that are always a 'must read' for you? Are there any you'd like to see more articles about?
(2) Are you an active member of your local chapter?
(2a) If so, what would you say is the principal benefit to you?
1.) Yes.

1b.) Not really.
2.) I show up at most meetings.
2a.) It's an easy way to keep track of what's happening with the profession. Plus the company buys dinner and I'm kind of a dog when it comes to free food.
Yes, PLSO publishes a magazine called "The Oregon Surveyor". Professional Land Surveyors of Oregon - The Oregon Surveyor
I prefer articles that add to my professional knowledge over life stories, but some of those are good, too.
I have been a semi-active member of my chapter in the past, but not so much for several years now. Benefit? A couple times over the years some hot shot new member of the state legislature has proposed something stupid that affects the profession. Like termination licensure. The PLSO has been able to head those efforts off pretty quickly. Then there is the annual state conference, of course.
Yes, the North Carolina Board of Examiner for Engineers and Surveyors publishes one and the North Carolina Society of Surveyors publishes one as well.
Kentucky Association of Professional Surveyors puts out a fine newsletter/magazine, edited by our own Jon Payne here.
