Not 100% sure but Leica has a new level out, the LS16. The software is updated and it has imaging, much like the new total stations. No need to look through the scope anymore, the level displays a video image on the screen (with an autofocus system). They've also built in a (rough) compass, so you can view your level run in "Infinity" with approximate horizontal locations as well. I can't imagine that TOO much could change with leveling as the principle remains the same... They seemed pretty excited about the new level though, so I'd guess that's what it is.

Seems interesting. Anyone have an idea what we can expect from this?
Lieven
No looks like 2 men in the video.
Would be good though.
I think this world shattering alignment will just be an updated version of the DNA level.

I am struggling to think of a benefit in that? Maybe if the level was in an accessible place like mounted on a bracket.
I'm 100% in the bag for Leica (heck, I've even made a pilgrimage to Heerbrugg), but I find their new product roll out marketing to be insufferable.

yeah that was kind of annoying....what the heck is it? What does it do? They did the same thing with captivate and the CS20 before they came out and the TS15
I like using Leica as well, but Yoda fans, too much, they are.
Not sure why I said alignment instead of announcement there.
I'm guessing servo driven digital level with "power search". And why not, all the tech is there and has been for a long time.
Might be cool, but there would be a lot of walking for the one man running a level loop, if that's the goal.

Exactly.
And it runs in to the same problem that I have with robotic total stations. In some situations, you don't want to leave the multi-thousand dollar instrument all by itself in an unprotected location. There are a few boundary and topo jobs I've done in "less than savory neighborhoods" where I wanted someone standing right next to that gun just so it didn't "walk away" on us.

It doesn't have that.

Party pooper.

So, what does it have? The video was a waste of time, in my opinion. If they want to pique my interest and not just annoy me, they need to do something more than say, "Hey, we have something new and really cool, spend a few minutes watching this video that doesn't tell you anything."
It's basically a DNA with video and updated, more intuitive, software. If you used a DNA every day it wasn't bad. If you used one rather infrequently it will be easier to operate the new LS16 than it was to navigate the menus of the DNA. It's more flexible now, and easier to run multiple lines at once or add sideshots. And also, as stated, they've added a rough compass to plot your loop horizontally (for illustrative purposes only).
Revolutionary? No. Welcomed? Sure.
Size and shape are the same as the DNA, at least to me, someone who doesn't run it every day.
Isn't GRAV D going to be the new one-man leveling solution?
The movie is out. It's not what i excepted. No one man solution just camera view and no need to focus. Just an upgrade of existing stuff wrapped in a new paper.
Leica instead of trying to impress us with the next great thing for a problem that does not exist. Try working on your poor excuse for a data collector. Perhaps even better how about not penalizing us the customer if we would like to use a clearly better option with your total station. Why do you think we are working for you instead of treating us like the customer? Quit trying to impress us with your superior knowledge and listen to the people using your product. Marketing and innovation is not your problem. Customer service is.
Sorry for the rant guys, but Leica is not listening.
