Why can't some jobs just stay dead?

Just got a call from the boss asking about an estimate of field time for an ALTA at a local apartment complex. The same one I have done the field work on for construction layout, and the succeeding 7 ALTA surveys in 8 years. Why can't this sucker just stay in one owners hands?

This site is about 23 acres with 11 buildings, a pool, nature paths, and a pond. No big deal but a pain because of line of site, and of course every new owner has to make their subtle changes to the nature paths and such.

Anyone else got their own reoccurring nightmare (OK maybe not a nightmare but a pain) job?

How does the 7th ALTA compare to all the others?

Has anything moved, been destroyed, new buildings or just the sign out front changed?

Do you have old control still in place? Even if not, it should be pretty quick to resect on some permanent features, stake out the old data and note any significant differences. Drawing changes should be easy.

Sounds like an opportunity to make extra money, even if you give them a discount for repeat business.

I would love to have a reoccurring job like this. You have done all the hard work. Field checking for changes and incorporating anything new should not take much time. Turn around should be fairly quick, and the fee for a new ALTA would include work already done. A familiar job is a good job.

Anyway, that's my two cents worth. I like doing as-built surveys where I have already done the construction surveying. And, going back to older surveys where I have already done one as-built survey and all I need to do is locate the new features to add to the existing features and check for any changes.

Y'all are missing the point. SC is the Crew Chief. He's not making the extra money from redoing something for the 8th time. He's bored, ready for new adventures, something different, and I don't blame him.:-)

I call them "tar babies" from Uncle Remus. Once you start messing with them you can't get your self away. You're stuck. For eternity. Probably even after eternity..

Best think to do is rent office space there so you'll always have a parking spot.
