I've been getting a lot of use from my cordless hedge trimmers this summer. I like being able to cut a hole into bushes and hedges without much collateral damage. I put my chainsaw in the truck for large boundaries with interior roads in case I need to clear a fallen tree from the trail. What other tools (hand or power) do you guys get a lot of use out of? I spent a good bit of time on a recent job cutting large roots over a corner with a hand saw and was wondering if there was a more efficient way.

Along with my cordless hedge trimmer (invaluable) I also bring along a cordless pole saw. I always keep my Military issue OKC Machete handy. (I think they may have recently went out of business)

Hand clippers. Granted, I'm not working in the deep woods these days. I have machete in the truck but I bet I haven't used it twice in the last five years.

Many years ago I worked for a fellow in NW Washington State that did a lot of timber work. That's very dense under brush and large trees, ready for harvest. His crews did not use chain saws. They cut the smallest of sight lines using hand tools, frequently no bigger than a fist, from traverse station to traverse station. Those guys really moved. They would then calculate offsets from the traverse stations to the boundaries which would be measured with a rag tape. They would then use a compass to flag up the boundary between those points, if necessary. The loggers were close behind with the heavy equipment.
