I'm spending the day sweeping the house...and hating it. I need a good boot scraper. I've tried a few over the years. The wooden ones will break-up and rot after a couple of years. The "colonial style" doesn't get the sides of the boot. What are the best?

I work out of my house and have to delay putting boots on until the last minute in the morning, and even then I find myself running through the house grabbing something I forgot, tracking mud everywhere. I don't have a foyer or mud room and even the garage is detached. This Virginia clay is sticky, and pounding the boots on the front porch in the morning doesn't get the job done.

Whatever I get, is getting mounted in some quickrete so I can wail on it.

My father enjoyed welding, and made three or four boot scrapers over the years. They were the best I ever saw. I think you could probably design what you want, allowing maybe for a flat bracket on each side to hold stiff brushes that can be replaced when they wear out or split down the back. Then take the design to a welder.

Cheers,

We live European style, take off your boots by the front door and put on slippers. I have a pair of slippers at work as well.

European? I learned in Asia that you leave the shoes at the door and wash your feet thruout the day when you wash your hands.

Public toilets have an ankle dept pool for washing feet.

A hoe mounted with the blade pointed up works for the scraping. Lug soles can need a power sprayer.

I hadn't even thought about making my own. Probably won't be too hard since I can weld.

I always use a broken lath or even a hub at the end of the day. Sit on the tailgate, scrape the mud, untie the laces, and enjoy the ride home. Before you go in just kick the step a couple times. Maybe take those dogs off before you go in. SWMBO will appreciate it more than you, and she'd likely bring you your slippers.

Or, golf courses always have a nice shoe scraper thingy. But that would be really anal to have on your porch...:-P

Never been to Asia, but I thought they leave the shoes outdoors. Every European home I've been to has a hall or room where the shoes and jackets go. In the winter I love to wear thick socks, so no slippers needed.
