The blm set the section corner, in 1936. Brass disk in conc cylinder.
Today, i find the conc disk broken off, and lying on it's side. I dug all around it, and did not yet find the base to thw mon.
I will return, with all the witness tree info, and using it, i will develop a search zone, and dig. Chances are, I will either find some remains of the base, or I will find that the witness trees put it back pretty good...
Now my question:
Should I put back my own rebar, and cap, or should I try my best to replace the existing, but disturbed marker?
One thing for sure... It's NOT going back where the blm had set it.
It may be within a tenth, or two...
My leaning is to replace the existing, but disturbed mon, as best I can, and reset it in conc. New witness trees, and document it very well, on my recorded plat.
There is no mag signal coming from it at all, right now.
I'd also add something magnetic...
Thoughts?
Nate

Set your monument and bury the remains beside it. I would NOT reset the original under any circumstance.

The answer varies widely by State. Here i would set my cap stamped per the Manual at the location the evidence puts it. A little South I would have to contact the county surveyor.

Rebar and cap for a section corner? Flared pipe and 3" brass or al cap. BLM likes stainless but that's a bit over the top.;)

Not being familiar with AR practices, I'll defer to others. But if resetting the original is not disallowed, you might consider following NGS practice and add the word RESET and the year to the disk.

I hope your survey will be recorded, I know in some states that's almost impossible. If you can't record replace the original. If you can, set a new monument, but not a rebar. Section corners are too important for a rebar, an aluminum pipe with a 3 1/4" cap and magnet is not that expensive. We cant expect respect for our work if we set crappy monuments.

Unless lcoal regulations prohibit it, stamp as per the manual with the addition of your LS number.

I like jim's suggestion above "reset, 2017, pls 1254"
Or, i can set an aluminum marker there, as per Arkansas Geological Commission standards.
Either way, it gets rehabed, and perpetuated.

If you place the date on it, and you should, there is no reason to stencil reset on a new cap. If you use the old GLO cap then reset makes sense.
