We haven't used it for a LONG time, but now we need to. It is running VERY slowly... a LOT slower than I ever remember it running. I've changed the ram card battery and also the aaa batteries and it hasn't helped. Is there something else I should be doing??

I use our reflectorless TS about once a month to shoot vertical clearances to overhead utilities...and I notice our's seems to run slow. I get in the 'zone' and sometimes get ahead of the darn thing with my button pushing. I guess there's just a noticable difference in the 48 speed and our DC speed. Take it out and see if it works. If it does, don't worry about the speed.

I love those things but, compared to what we have now, they're pretty much 'covered wagon' technology.

PS - try to keep all the old jobs in that thing to a minimum. That does affect it's speed.

Change the 48 into at least the Nomad with TDS. For real, sounds like you've done everything, except have you deleted all the old jobs off the card? I keep mine lying around, praying that I'll never need to revert back...but it's there nonetheless serving as back up.

Try the rebooting procedure. Make sure that all the jobs are backed up though. I seem to remember that sometimes that cleared the memory. I do seem to remember that point number gaps also slowed them down some. It's been about6 years since I used one on a semi regular basis.

Good luck.

Make sure there aren't a ton of jobs on the memory card. The TDS 48s slow down as you add more jobs in memory.

Check and see if you are in course of fine mode. That will make a difference.

Hey, this is still state of the art technology here at Kauai DOT. 🙂

As above, try the reboot procedure and clear out the older (and larger) jobs.
Other than that, I can't think of any reason that the device itself would be any slower than it was years ago. Hope it works for you...

I really like the setup.. I forgot how much recently using it again). It is bullet proof... it ran for months on triple a batteries (my robot runs about 1/2 day and that's 1/2 day for the gun and 1/2 day for the controller, lots of batteries to change in a day)...it's easy to read (my controller screen does lots of cool stuff but it's tiny by comparison)... it uses WAY less steps to accomplish the same functions (again, my controller does lots of cool stuff, but it's WAY more steps getting there).

I WILL try rebooting AND clearing out the old jobs (most are from 2006, about when we got the robot)

BTW... we just got back from Kauai! We spent a week in Poipu and a week in Princeville. I really like Kauai... it reminds me a LOT of Oregon (Western and Eastern Oregon vs. Princeville and Poipu/Waimea). The rain in Kauai is a LOT warmer than the rain in Oregon this time of year though:-)

I've still got 5 of the old girls. Only one was setup with Survey Pro. There are a lot of things that I wish had carried over to the new DC, prompt for rod heights AFTER the shot, notes AFTER the shot. Still don't know where the heck the raw data goes! Touch screens suck in cold weather also. Yeppers, check all the above, fine to coarse may be the ticket.

good luck

It's been 15 years ..... vague memories....... something about sequential or non-sequential point files....?

As I recall, if you have a large gap in the point numbers, like 1, 2, 3, 5000, 6001, 10000, 10001...

it takes it time for some reason.

JD,

You can set up for TDS Survey Pro to prompt for rod height AFTER the shot. I have both of my Rangers set up this way. Can't speak about the notes option after the shot. I still use the field book for notes.

Stay warm up there!
