It's time to get a new computer. I've been transferring my collected data using a computer running on XP with a 9 pin serial port. I'm told 9 pin serial ports will not be found in a new computer. Has anyone made the leap to Windows 7 with a virtual serial port? Any other method found to work?

It's true that you won't find them stock on new machines. You can always add a serial port card to the machine you buy or just order it from Dell or similar with one already installed.
I have a serial to USB adapter to download my HP to my windows 7 and windows 8 machines. I have never had a problem with it. After the driver is installed it is recognized as com 2.
