I'm sitting at the computer working on a large boundary and have the back area of the parcel on the screen. An out of state number rings on the phone, I ponder whether or not to answer it, but I do.
Lady from Colorado asks: I'm calling to see if you have a survey for my parcel in your area. She starts to explain the location of the land.
I realize almost right a way she is talking about the parcel in common with the boundary I'm doing and I have her deed in my hand.
I say Is this by chance the old Jackson Farm and is your name perhaps Jane Doe.
We both were amazed and I end up sending her to the guy down the road who did the recent surveying for that parcel.
Pretty odd, total cold call at the end of the day.

Class act! Way to go.:good:
Over 420 views and no one has chastised you for giving away an opportunity to make some big bucks on something simple from someone you will never meet or work for again. That says a great deal about the integrity of the crowd participating here.
I had a similar experience while doing on-line courthouse research a couple of months ago. The survey was in the county where I grew up, but in a different municipality about 7 miles away.
Having completed research for the job, my curiosity led me to look up the current owner of my childhood home. Upon seeing the unique name, I recognized it as being also one of the adjoiners to the property I was about to survey.
A year or so ago I had a call from a lady whose neighbor had hired some dumb bass of a surveyor and totally screwed up everything. Within two minutes of conversation I was able to tell her that she was talking to the alleged dumb bass.

Did you call him and cuss him out?

Because nobody will stand up and say "...identify myself as under contract with the neighbor, and with my clients consent, completing both surveys at the same time is a win/win for everybody...".
That is likely what I would do, I have done, and I have also wanted nothing to do with (referral time).
Like usual... it depends and likely there is much more to the issue
That's what we old timers would describe as a "local call". No long distance charges necessary.
