All,

I'm in a race of sorts to impact this years budget before June 30th.

I've been told we have "some money" for GPS aquisition, I've not been given
a specific figure.

We're currently running a Trimble S6, with a TSC2 collector with radio,
as well as a Trimble CU to run on the instrument.
Software has to date been Survey Pro robotics, with the recent add on of
basic spectra precision office to handle *.survey files.

I know I'm opening myself up to a broadside here..... but here goes!

My preference is to stay with "Team Yellow" as a preference to keep things
as compatible as possible.

1. We're inside the ORGN network that's up and running in our area. So I'm
thinking our existing TSC2 would need a cell modem card.
Which ones out there are working well for everyone??

2. I'm thinking of a hardware array of 2 R10 units with radios so that they
could both act as RTK rovers on the ORGN. Together with one of those great
"new" narrow band radios so that if there is a cell dissruption or a place
with poor coverage, we could use one as a base, and the other as a rover.
Make sense?

3. To round this out for the most flexiblity I can think of (for now) would be
a TSC3 collector as well.
Any problems that are showing up out there with these?

4. I'm thinking of switching software at the same time to Trimble business center,
and the TSC2 and TSC3 to Trimble ACCESS.
Any comments on the ease of use, software cost, or other problems with either
of these configurations?

I'm sure it's going to be a sizeable quote from our local dealer.
If there's problems with this approach or configuration, I wanted to know so I should start discussions on "re-aligning" our budget.

Thanks ahead of time for any and all answers.....

I apologize for my sparse and brief description, I'm due in a staff meeting soon....

I can tell you a few thing I "think" I know. I keep getting conflicting information so I could easily be wrong but it will give you some questions to ask.

The TSC2 will not run Trimble Access.
Survey Controller will not run the R10.
Assuming that is correct then the TSC2 will not run the R10.

James

If you find out different, please let me know.

Spend "some money" on the R10, Access TSC3, and TBC.

Been running R8-3s, Access TSC3s, and TBC for the last year and couldn't be happier.

TSC2's will run Access, but in my opinion you should go with the TSC3...it has lots more features and is newer technology...

R10's work great....they also come with 2 watt internal radio standard, so if you are not going very far, you could use the internal radio for your RTK and not have to have an external radio...tho that is also a good option.

I demo'd an R10 last week and didn't care for it.

They do this annoying thing where they say they're initialized immediately, but precisions are still very high (+/- 2ft) and then slowly work their way down.

My trimble rep told me that Trimble released new firmware for the R6 that extends the functionality dramatically to other constelations.. including galileo. For my money.. that's the best deal now. And it's doesn't do that annoying precisions thing.

If you look here.

Trimble R10, R8 (Model 3), R7(Model 2 1), R6(Model 3), R5, R4(Model 2)
GNSS receiver firmware versionv4.70

Extended support for Galileo, BeiDou (COMPASS) and other GNSS constellation information (Almanac)

R10 is bleeding edge in my opinion.

I think you have the right idea. Stick with the yellow let the others mellow. TSC2 will run access as others have said. I run it, but yea, you will need a card and mine sucks. So does ATT. Just sayin. Go big or go home some say. I love our R8's and TBC. I would drop coin for the R10 if we had it budgeted. Solid stuff. You cant go wrong really with the support factor and a new grip of gear.

I am jealous.

Have fun!

I bought a TSC3 at the end of last year.. love it and Access is ok. Built in camera. GPS search on the 5600.. all great features. I recommend it totally, but a $30k R10, not so much.
