We have a topcon fc-2500 that started ghost tapping yesterday. It's as if someone keeps tapping the screen in the same spot and renders the data collector useless. Has anyone ever have the happen before? Has one ever replaced the screen on FC-2500 and know the parts to get? Thanks for your help.
It happens to about 25% of them after a few years of moderate use. $1000+ repair according to our shop.
If you are near a Geoshack, They replaced the screen on my FC2000 for about $350 and had it done in one day.
I am about 1.5 hours drive from the one in San Antonio, so it was worth the drive and wait opposed to sending it off.
They have bailed me out several times.
PS,
I would not attempt this as a DIY.

Mine is starting this from time to time. Per my Topcon tech:
1)Thorough cleaning. I try to get a piece of paper between the seal and screen to remove small particles of dust
2)No more rides on my exterior mount. Limestone roads are a butt kicker
3)Tapping/touching more deliberately, yet lightly
4)Replacing the screen protector bi-weekly with normal use. More often in dusty environments
The tech, whom I really like, concurred with the $1k price tag mentioned earlier. He said the replacement had come down quite bit :-O now that Topcon allowed the techs to do the work. Claimed it was near double when you HAD to send it to Topcon.
I also know I am just delaying the inevitable.

Before I spend a Grand I would open it up. I had to wait two weeks for parts on the slow boat from china, but only cost ten bucks to fix my FC-2000.

Your screen is going bad. There is a place from Louisianna that will repair them for $300-400. I don't remeber the name of the place off hand but do a search on this site on screen repair or replacement and I think you'll find it.

I will second what Scott said. I ordered a $50 screen from China and once it showed up it took less than one hour to open up and replace. Of course mine was a TSC2 (out of warranty). For $1000, I would do it myself.
I was able to replace the screen, but I can't get it callibrated. Did you have to do anything special to get it to function properly?
I have the same problem as you. Did u solved it? Can anyone help.
Can ask any of you who got a replacement screen, what site did you get it on? I have the same challenge. My screen is shattered. Was it difficult to replace?
Thanks in-advance!
