Even better was the 19F and rain we drove through yesterday for 25 miles. They finally shut down the interstate after we passed through.
This morning it was -11F at the office, the first day double digits under 0 this year.?ÿ
Sending it towards you, hopefully it will pass through quickly but the 8" of snow it left behind for us is really messing up work schedules.?ÿ
Not uncommon here in the winter as bad stuff from the west gets uplifted crossing the mountains (hills to Rockies residents) and then turns north between Greensboro and Raleigh. Ground temps right at the freezing mark with somewhat warmer air just above, maybe 10,000 feet. Rain on the way down, ice when it touches something, power out for five days.
90 percent of people around here would not go in to work if we had 8" of snow.?ÿ Those of us tied to livestock will show up of course.?ÿ You are more than welcome to hang onto that -11 F foolishness.?ÿ The snow here would melt off in less than a week.?ÿ That is something totally foreign to you TundraLovers, like the ones I lived around in Michigan years ago.

This morning it was nearly 70F and thick air and it began with sprinkles and is a steady rain with a northwest wind increasing and going down to around 50F and a forecast of 22F in the morning with a high of 40F and sunshine.
That will mean black ice patches on the roads and early birds in ditches everywhere.
I let the dogs out at 4:30 AM and it was almost 50, with calm winds and really humid.?ÿ I didn't stick my nose out the door again for an hour and a half.?ÿ By that time it 30 and sleeting with a 35 mph north wind.?ÿ ?ÿThe temp has continued to drop ever since.
The dogs are reluctant to go out anymore...?ÿ
From my daughter Cathy in Maine. For those of you who don't know, guinea hens are the dumbest birds of all time. They can fly up into a tree, but a fence will mystify them so they run back and forth trying to find a way to cross (which would be, to fly over).
Lots of snow and frozen rain coming down.
I tried like heck to round up the guinea's and the stupid things flew in the tree. I left the duck run door open in case they may have a moment of being smart and get shelter. Suppose to hit 17 degrees tonight. This is when they get frost bite on their toes. I can't help them now.

Yes, crazy weather. Here is StL it was 70 degrees yesterday, 3 inches of snow today, low of 12 tonight. Packing up and heading to a Noel, MO tomorrow to do some surveying along the Elk River. I miss Summer already...

I can only image...This past year I have done tons and tons of stream surveys for bank stabilization and conservation easements across Missouri. Nearly every site is prime "Deliverance" country with no cell phone coverage.
Good thing about Noel its close to a tri-state monument. I've been to the one between MO/KS/OK up near Joplin, but the one near Noel MO/AR/OK will be a new one for me.

Many years ago I spent much time in and around Houston. I remember seeing fellows at intersections selling about four sticks of firewood for some ridiculous price to drivers headed to their houses that were built with fireplaces for some silly reason. With a projected low of 32 F those guys are probably making a killing tonight.
BTW, we will be a balmy 20 F which will be a significant improvement over the 11 or 12 we had last night.
